I'm working on my Master's right now and I've taken many courses online. I am currently taking a statistics class online and an art integration partially online and partially on campus. I'm not sure about solely online degrees or universities, but I will tell you that taking online courses requires a lot more responsibility than one that you go to class. You need to keep yourself accountable for getting the work completed and remembering assignments. I had a class before where I forgot to take the midterm...! Thanksfully so did about half the class, so we were allowed to retake it and the people who took it on time got bonus points. You also will have differences based on how well the professor teaches and their methods. I've had some that make powerpoints and give reading assignments, and otherwise its up to you. Some will host online sessions where you can speak verbally through the system. Honeslty I'm struggling right now through a statistics class because it makes NO sense and while the professor is assessible, he only gives powerpoints and weekly sessions at the same time (which is why I took an online class to avoid having a set time and work at my own schedule) and he doesn't give timely feedback on assignments. But there are LOTS of positives too, it relaly depends on what you want.

I'm in my second year of my Master's Degree (through Savannah College of Art and Design) and I'm doing it online. Look for a school that has a list of places people got jobs at afterwards. My school has a track record of tons of people getting hired, so I knew I'd be safe!

If I understand you correctly, I think you mean "attending" a college that does EVERYTHING online (no class to go to, no teacher to meet etc.) I would google reviews and see what you come up with. There may be articles as well about online degrees.

I guess it depends on the line of work you are interested in going in. Some employers are more interested in the experience, some in the education, some both. I find that as long as you have a post-secondary education, many employers don't care where you got it from (and again-this depends on the line of work you want to go in).

My dad got his Bachelor's from an entirely online university (Park University), and I don't think that's hampered him at all.  He was in the military for 25 years, and got his Bachelor's shortly before he retired.  He really couldn't have attended a brick and mortar school.

I am getting my Master's of Library Science through the University of North Texas (brick and mortar school) in an entirely online program.  I am required to do a practicum in a library, since I don't already have that experience.  I don't think this will hurt me.  UNT is accredited through the ALA--I made sure of that before I chose it!  I think, in my field, an online education offers the benefit of becoming very familiar with technology during my two years.

PLEASE, just make sure whatever school you choose is accredited, either nationally (like any university must be), or through a professional association, if that's part of your field.

Saying "online degree" makes me nervous--do you mean an online program through a physical school, or through an entirely online school (like that University of Phoenix)?  Or something that's not legit.

I think employers these days (I hope, anyway), are progressive enough to understand that not eveyrone has the means to sit in a class at a brick and mortar school, and will accept applicants with degrees from places like Park or the U of Phoenix.

THIS!!! Make sure it is an accredited school or you could 1. lose your money if the program shuts down out of nowhere 2. not receive your degree for some reason or 3. not get a job because the institution you've applied to work at knows it wasn't accredited
