Newly Engaged! Need to book a venue ASAP!

Hello everyone!
I'm new to The Knot boards. I just got engaged on 10/10/10 and I'm trying to book my ceremony and reception at the same location. This past weekend I looked at the Black Bear Golf Club (part of the Crystal Springs Resort in Hamburg), and it was lovely! It's everything we're looking for!
The problem is that at the time, it was only the second place I'd looked at.
I am hesitant to book only the second place I saw. I can't help but think there's something just as nice out there for less money. My fiance and I are on such a tight budget that I've even been thinking about booking any place that has a cancelation or unbooked date over the summer, instead of the October 8, 2011 wedding we were hoping for.
The Tides in Haledon quoted me at only $70/pp for an August 12th wedding! However, a ceremony outside in August might be super hot.
I'm very overwhelmed right now. I have to give the Black Bear a final answer by Saturday, or I'll lose my date. Is it worth it to save $15-20/pp and keep running around like a maniac looking for better deals? Or should I just book the place I love and relax? I feel like not shopping around and exhausting every possibility might be irresponsible of me if it could ultimately lead to a better deal.
Help!
~ Rae

We are getting married at The Tides Estate On Feb 19, 2011! It was the 4th place I looked at and knew it was the "one" I have been to a wedding in August of 2009 at the Tides and it wasnt too hot because of all the shade and it was around 6pm.... But My best advice is go with what your gut is telling you!

It's really up to you and your personality.

For us, we were just interested in finding something affordable that we liked, and I made sure that it had good reviews on this board and other websites.

We actually wound up booking The Tides and we were very pleased with it, although we didn't have our ceremony there. We visited 5 venues before that, which ranged from "No way!" to "Meh, this would be all right." We got a good feeling from The Tides so we booked it. We had another venue appointment scheduled after that one, but since we liked The Tides we canceled that next appointment.

We wanted to get things booked and keep moving forward, because that's just the way we are. We booked the second photographer we met with, the first limo company we met with, and the only florist we met with, because we could afford them, we liked them and they had good reviews. I booked the DJ sight unseen, completely over the phone, just because he got good reviews here and because he gave us an afforable price quote. We were extremely happy with all these vendors.

My point being, you could look around for years if you wanted, and although you COULD probably find better deals if you keep looking, the question is, do you WANT to keep looking? There's no reason that Black Bear isn't Your Place, just because it was second on your list ... if you think it'd be Your Place if it was sixth on your list, would you still book it?

If you love it, the 10-12 bucks a plate is immaterial in the long run.  Just make sure you love it....compare to other places.  AND TRY THE FOOD!

Honestly, you probably won't find a better deal. Sometimes the first place or 2 is the right place. We looked at other places after the venue we booked with, to confirm that Ravello's was the right one for us. If you like either of those, I would go with it because chances are that you will go back to it anyway....70pp for a Friday night wedding is good and I would jump on it.

Brooklake Country Club in Floraham Park is fantastic! You can negotiate them to get them down to your price.

I'm getting married at The Tides April 17, 2011 its a sunday evening, upstairs room for $107 pp and thats including having the ceremony there. It was the first place we looked at and fell in love with it. I've heard nothing but good things about this place and so far they have been great to work with. If you found a place you love then in the end saving a few bucks on the reception shouldn't be a factor. Besides you can always make up the difference in other areas of your budget.

We booked the 2nd place we saw.  Overall we looked at 4 places and kept comparing.  Only then did I know it was the one.

I booked the 10th place we saw - ahhh!!!  It was quite crazy but as the others said- when you know you know! We got a feeling at that place that we didn't have at the others! As others said, you can make up the difference in the budget on some of the other stuff.

    Thanks so much ladies!!
I wound up going with the Black Bear. All of your advice was very helpful!
I decided that saving $15/pp and having my wedding in August instead of October wasn't worth it.
I'll be signing the contract this week, and our wedding will be on October 8th (a Saturday)!!!
BridetoBe730....how was your experience at the Black Bear??
