I dont know what to do about the reception..HELP PLEASE

so we just did our final meeting with caterer and went over the times of what time ceremony, reception is to start and end. our ceremony is at 2pm and we figured our guest would be at reception venue at 3pm starting appetizers. we figured after bridal party/family photos we would be there around 4pm. right now we have venue until 7pm and planned on extending it an additional 2 hours to end at 9pm. but my mom about had a cow ( because shes paying for caterer and the servers) because its going to cost an additional sum of money for the extra to hours that she said we never discussed. so my question is if i have reception till 7pm do you think thats too early to end it or if i extend it till 9pm would alot of people leave because they have been with us all day and had to get sitters because its an adult only reception..THANK YOU anything helps at this point because i dont know what to do

It depends on How long your ceremony is, I think ours is going to be around 45 minutes so 3 pm would be a little early for us. you could always do like 3:30 because then you could have a cocktail party for around an hour and you would show up half way in and then do your toasts and dinner would be served around 4:30 ish. and depending on the dinner type buffet they say takes around 45 minutes to an hour so you are looking at like 5:30 so about 1 hour and a half for dancing and all the other stuff.

I think you should be ok, but maybe just do another hour, I would not do 2, I think a lot of receptions are around 5 hours and that is the perfect amount of time.

    Good luck :)

You could always compromise and do an extra hour for the reception and then have an informal gathering at another location, like the hotel bar. This way you can still have more time with your friends who will like to drink and party more than family anyway.
