Let's Play Dress Up

It seems kinda slow today, so here's something fun to do...

I bought a really cute b&w print dress from White House | Black Market, and had intended to wear it for my rehearsal dinner and my showers in Dec/Jan.

However, my mom is insistent that, as I'm only getting married once, that I should have a different dress for my showers - her treat. Ok...if it'll make her a happy mom, then game on.

Problem is, with everything going on at the moment, I have zero desire to shop. Zero. And my mom has asked me about four times already about ideas/what I've been looking for. Let's just say she's an excited MOB.

So, I'm recruiting you ladies - go shopping for me.

Basically, I'd like to find a very pretty basic black dress, and a colored shrug/shoe/jewelry combo to make it pop. I have a little bit of a pooch, so a dress that flows or flairs in the bottom half is always good. I'm leaning towards trying to find sapphire/cobalt blue, or a really pretty green, but I'm open to any color. Please no stilettos (so I don't bust my ass in the snow and ice).

So, shop away for any or all of those pieces. Bonus points for PIP and links. Thanks in advance.

I just did a quick search and Ann Taylor has one or two nice, simple black dresses. And then I found a few cardigans on JCrew. There is a really pretty blue-green color called "blossom" and another more teal color called "warm peacock". They look better when they're not buttoned up.

I don't know how you feel about vintage, but I think this is adorable. Stop Staring dresses are a firm stretchy material that help hold the pooch in.

Okay, I need a budget.

However, for now...

I know that this WILL go on sale between now and Dec/Jan. (Plus they will probably send out a 20% coupon between now and then as well.) I think it is a classic dress that would look fabulous on you. The fabric is the perfect mix for any occassion. It can be dressed up or dress down. (Same fabric as my BM dresses, not that I am biased.)

CARDIGANS!!! Seriously, I'm in love with Old Navy's cardigans. I have about 6 in all sorts of colorful colors and prints. They're thinner so you can wear them in the summer (I have one on now since it's an icebox here- no complaints since its 90 outside)

I honestly don't know what kind of budget to give you, as my mom is picking up the tab. I would say shoot for under $100-150 for the whole outfit, so I don't feel like a total brat for letting Mommy buy me clothes. lol

Both my showers are up north. One is in Colorado in December, the other is in Ohio in January. Brrrrrrrrrrrr.

Oh, and when it comes to shoes, I would just bring whatever shoes you are going to wear and change into them when you get to the party. At least, that is what I did when it was snowy in MD.

Occassionally. This past winter was their worst one in awhile. It usually only snows once or twice a winter. And it is gone within a couple of days.

However, a huge bonus there is that everything shuts down because they don't get snow that often. Free days off work!

I already planned on doing that. The "please no stilettos" request was more so I don't make a complete and total arse of myself when I break one and fall on my face.

Lol. Considering it's going to be mostly my older female relatives in attendance, and the middle of the afternoon, I don't think it's gonna get too wild.

Oceana, I don't have links right now (and am lazy, sorry) but I'm a BM in someone's wedding and they told us to get basic black dresses and suggested some really cute ones from JCPenney. May be worth looking at.
