What is the best way to let people know?

My Fi and i haven't started working on a registrt yet. Iam sure we will register some things in reg. stores but we are members at direct buy. We want people to know how to contact the store for gift cards as non members are not allowed in. I figure I will put it on the wedding website. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. I just hate the thought of people paying up to twice as much for somethings then needed.

Re: What is the best way to let people know?

  • If I wasn't going to give a couple a physical gift, contacting a store that I wasn't a member of to get them a gift card would be a big hassle and I would just give cash.  Just saying.  But ditto Retread that it's rude to come out and ask for cash (or gift cards).

Also--I know it's hard to commit to registry items when you know you can find cheaper at another store or if you bargain hunt, but when your guests buy you presents, it's up to them to decide how they spend their money.  Make sure you have a variety of price ranges on your registry, and then if people find an item for less money, they may just buy it elsewhere on their own.
  • Register for it, even if it's $10 cheaper at another store... if a guest cares enough, they'll take the time to look for deals or use coupons. Don't worry about GCs... and like PP said - If I'm not a member, I don't want to go through a hassle.

Yeah "suggesting" guests call a store seems like a hassle for them.  Maybe close family, you can mention it too, but for other guests, let them buy you a gift at a store that's convenient for THEM.  It's thoughful of you to want to save them money, but in the end it will just be a hassle to deal with the direct buy.

I wish I could've nudged people towards Costco gift cards, because they have  A LOT of items I want sometimes $20 - $30 less than BBB or C&B items, but again you need a membership to even go in there. But most of our guests used coupons at BBB anywaays so guests saved money anyways...
