Converse for wedding shoes?

So this may sound crazy, but would it be horrible to wear custom made converse (shown below) under my dress for the reception? I love Converse shoes, and I thought it would be something fun, and comfortable to wear while dancing, but Im afraid it will look rediculous. My fiance and I were also thinking of giving his groomsmen custom red converse as their gift and they could switch into those for the reception too, since mens dress shoes aren't always that comfortable... Thoughts?

  • Also - I would have different pretty shoes for the ceremony.

  • Nope, not horrible at all.  I too customized mine (and they're purple) and put my new last name on the side (Mrs...) I love them, and they're so fun.  And too, I'm wearing heels for the ceremony.  My FI is doing the same thing.  Nice black dress shoes for the ceremony and customized Converse for the reception.

  • that's so cool you are doing it as well! And they are something I can wear afterwards. makes me feel a little better about it that someone else had the same idea!

  • All the groomsmen do wear converse regularly as well (which is why we thought it would be a nice gift). We were also considering sun glasses for the guys. They wouldn't be required to wear them to the reception either - but we thought it could be fun!

  • Also keep in mind that if you wear heels for your ceremony, but Converse for the reception, you are going to need to have your dress hemmed to the shortest length, otherwise you will be stepping on it all night.

  • you're going to get mixed reactions on here - i say its up to you. we did it. i asked my BMs if they wanted the same and they said yes, so i bought them all the custom ones (below) with their names on them. it's a bit pricey - just to warn you, but i thought it was fun.
  • One more point -- if you buy them for your groomsmen and expect them to wear them for the reception, then that shouldn't really count as their "gift."  You should still get them something else that is personal to their tastes and not something you expect them to wear for the wedding.

  • If it's truly YOU and your personality, go for it.  But I don't think you need to change shoes.  I think it's silly to wear a fancy shoe (that you'll probably never wear again) just for the ceremony and then change to the fun one for the reception.  Just wear the shoe the whole time.

I'm wearing boots, because that's "me".  I love heels too, but I think it would be a little ridiculous to wear a heel for the ceremony (which is in grass) then switch to boots to dance.

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • It sounds fine to me.  Only problem I think of is, if you are wearing heels to the ceremony, and flat shoes to the reception, your dress will drag.
  • I'm not a fan of the idea. I don't understand why a bride would want to wear an ugly shoe that you can wear anyday on "your day". There are so many cute and fun heels and ballet flat options that you can wear to complement your dress. Wear whatever makes you happy and feel special though!

  • Definitely wearing flat inexpensive shoes for the ceremony. Already thought of the dress hem thing. I may not wear shoes at all for the ceremony. Not a dress up kind of girl, and certainly not spending much on a pair of dress shoes I'll only wear once.

Seems only a few of you understood where I was going with this...more about ME wearing them vs. the bridal bridal.  And I'm not doing the Converse thing "to be different".  Everything has been done before at least once, its to personalize it. I think a wedding should be themed to the bride and groom - This fits us perfectly.

Anway, thanks to you all for the input. I've decided to go with them because everyone in our parties LOVES the idea and I'm really excited!!
