"This Dress Does Not Fit My Venue"

I see that a whole lot when brides are selling their dresses on OnceWed or Recycled Bride or just on post on TK. What exactly does that mean? I'm new to this whole thing and I want to know how does a dress fit your venue ? To save me the shame! Thanks

Re: "This Dress Does Not Fit My Venue"

  • Example:  If you're getting married on a beach usually a princess ballgown doesn't go.  Beach is more of a casual atmosphere so you would either have a sheath, mermaid or fit and flare.

As for a ballroom venue you wouldn't wear a dress that looks like a prom dress in white.  You want to stand out.

  • I agree with PP, my reception is in a barn and a big ball gown would not fit this theme. My dress is chiffon and lace.

  • What it really means: "I bought my dress way too early before I had a bunch of other stuff in place and I regret it. I couldn't stop looking because of the pressure of the marital-industrial complex and all those TV shows and magazines, and tried on more. I found another one I liked better. But I'm not telling you that."

  • Oh, I figured it meant something like having a barn wedding and not a big princess-y gown but I agree with the buying the dress to early thing too.. haha! Funny!

    Thanks!

  • I personally think any dress can work with any venue, its up to the bride. I agree with Mem though, tastes change as the time draws nearer.
  • I can attest to Mems comment. I am getting married in 9 days, in my 4th dress since getting engaged in Aug of 2010. lol
  • I personally think you can wear any dress that makes you feel great in any venue that works for you and your fiance to have your wedding.  But that was the personal decision that these brides made.  Or perhaps it was an option that the site gave them where they check off the reason why they didn't like the dress?
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • A great idea is to have the dress altered for the receiption dress.  Or you can have a seamstress change it up for you to meet your needs.  Michelle at Amy Lee Bridal is perfect to help you with any changes you may want to make to your dress.
  • I think you should get married where you are happy and wear whatever you want because it makes you feel most special and beautiful. Ballgown on a beach, Sheath in a barn, long, short, hair up or down... it's your day. Love who you're with, what you created, and most of all, who you are!
    Best wishes to all.

  • I think a bride CAN wear whatever she likes to her venue.  But since I picked my venue first, and I wanted a cohesive look, it really helped me focus my choices.  I loved several different styles of gowns.  I'm having a very formal evening wedding in a classic, formal grand setting. I chose a duchess satin full gown.  If I were having a garden wedding I might have chosen one of the beautiful lighter tulle gowns or something.
OBVIOUSLY I could wear a light tulle gown in any setting, but I thought the gown I chose was right for whole wedding, not just a beautiful dress on me. (it IS a beautiful dress on me too.)

    Make sense?
