Embarrassing things you do to/with your pets

Gator is overweight - per the Vet. He usually tries to get some of X's food before she's finished and is always bringing me his bowl when it's dinner time. We moo at him all the time. ALL. THE. TIME. It sounds like we're a herd of cattle in this house sometimes because we've ALWAYS called Thor "Moo Cow" and he's fat too.

I overfeed my animals. And then I moo at them. I'm a terrible mom.

ETA: I don't TRY to make them fat, and I'm trying to help them lose weight...I'm not abusing my animals. Just FYI. Don't want the PETA police coming after me.

  • When I really listen to myself talk to Lucy, or think about the things I say, I get a little mortified. I say a ton of really annoying shiiit to my dog. And then I think about what Ben must think of what I'm saying and how I'm saying it, and then I get even more embarrassed. But he does it too, so I guess we're in good company.

  • I beat my cat at staring contests every time.

  • We have created Oxford bowling. It doesn't work nearly as well now that we have carpet instead of hardwood/tile. We also put food on the glasstop table, just to see him jump for it EVERY.TIME. You would think that he would learn. Nope.
  • I talk to him a lot even if we are walking in public.

I smell my dogs fur. It's like heaven to me.

I don't tell him no when he licks my toes.

And he sleeps in bed with us and I spoon him.

There are probably more but they are normal to me.
  • My dog is lame. She just sits there so she's no fun. Loki was kinda fugly so I'd call him Yoda all the time, since he looks so much like Yoda to me.
  • X raps and some of you have been able to recieve video proof of that. She's a thug.

Now that I'm not working, I swear I only talk in a normal voice when Brian is home. If he's not I'm talking in X voice, Gator voice, Thor voice or talking to my beasts voice.
  • My parents leave the AC and a TV on for their dog on if he is left alone for any amount of time all year long.
  • When I still had my cats I would dance with them. They were less than amused.

We also used to have staring contests. I'm not sure if they knew they were participating or not.

  • I have what FI calls my "kitty voice" that I use whenever I talk to the cats. I also have a million ridiculous nicknames for them. My favorite thing to do is squeak at Ada- if I say, "ADA BUG, WHAT ARE YOU DOOOOING?" she usually meows back at me. But only if I say it in a really high pitched voice.

I didnt even realize FI was close enough to hear me when I scooped Ada up the other night and told her she got "scooped like a news story." He got a kick out of that.

  • i used to talk as my cat. In a really deep, cranky man voice with lots of cussing.

    She was a girl.
  • Why use words when I can use photos.

[QUOTE]I talk to my cats in baby voices and ask them questions about their day "Did you sleep well? No fighting today, was there? Which toy mouse did you play with?" They also each have an embarrassing amount of nicknames. Leonardo is Leo, Leelee, Kitters, Sweet Boy, Handsome Boy, Leo-bear, and whatever else comes out of my mouth. Leia is Leilei, Kitty, Pretty Kitty, Girly, LeiaBeia, Squish, Leia Beth (her middle name is Elizabeth), and Baby. Plus, again, many more at various times.

I am so glad I am not the only one who does this. Cheyenne is usually just Banana (or Bananas in Pajama Boots), but Ada has been the Bug, Booboo, Princess, Munchkin, Sugar, Chunkster, Goobergirl, and on and on.

We're still working on figuring out Maci's voice.

I sing when I work around the house, and if one of my cats walks into the room, I add their name into the song.

FI has conversations with one of our cats because she meows whenever her name is said, so he has pretend chats with her.

djhar and button, I think there is some genetic predisposition to having a million nicknames for cats. Bonnie is Boniel, Bonners, Bonabingo, Stinka Pinka, Boniford, and Spudly.
  • Of corse I talk to them too. When we leave we usually put one of them in charge and it goes something like this "Ichabod, you are in charge. We will be home around 10pm. Dinner is out. Make sure Spencer doesn't eat too much and try not to puke on anything."

  • And I just remembered I put a video on Youtube of Ada playing fetch with a bottlecap. I officially am a lunatic.

I have a video of Ichabod and Spencer in seperate cat carriers in our back seat talking to each other. Spencer has a high pitched "mew" and Ichabod has a low deep "MEOOOOOW."

We do this to. I kind of feel like this is not normal, but I don't GAF. Last night I was walking to my car after I took Fox to visit H at work and I said, "Say bye to Daddy," and waved Fox's paw. There were some other officers walking into the building and I felt SO bad. I probably embarrassed H.

Weve joked that our dog doesnt respond well to his real name (vincent or vinnie) because we never call him that. We call him everything else BUT that, though we do call him vin a lot. Booger, booboo, boobie, toombie, smoo, schmoo, smoopoo, doodoohead, doopoo, booba, dooda. Are you seeing a trend? Other weird things, we have a video of him playing and the doorbell goes off and he takes off running in the video - we crank the volume sometimes and play it and he will freak out and take off running as if its the actual door. This video is like 4 years old and we havnt had that doorbell in that long but he still reacts the same. We also sometimes hide for the sole purpose of scaring him. He scuttles after that and its always worth it.
  • - I tell Baxter to be a good baby fluff while I'm gone every day.

    - We meow at him when he meows and he does it back to us 99% of the time. We pretend to have conversations with meaning like this just about every day.

    - I carry him around like a little baby and snuggle with him.
  • We like to pretend one of our dogs is a genius and the other i struggling through pre-school. Stryker, aka Big Doggie, Charles, Bubba, etc., has 4 doctorates in quantam physics. He has a certificate that hangs on the fridge. Lulu, aka Little Doggie, Lou, Peanut, Boo, etc., has crayon drawings that hang on the fridge. H and I drew them with our left hands so they'd look as childish as possible. We're clearly nutters.

I think I had the same conversation in my head.

We don't have any pets so this is my only contribution to the conversation. Way to go Andrea.

  • I sing songs to my dog and cat songs from the radio and things and change the words. For my cat i sing tabby the tuna and some other words to the tune of baby baluga . idk why my fiancee laughs at me all the time!

I smell my dogs and cats fur i love it

I put clips in my pomerainans boys hair even if its pink

and peta dont hate me i will be dying my pomeranianss tail puff pink for my wedding

and i dress them both up hahahah
  • FI and I baby talk to our animals. We'll have full-on conversations with Sam because he is one of the most vocal cats I have ever been around. He'll come up to us and meow really loud, and we'll back and forth with him about "how no one ever loves, no one ever feeds him" (all sarcasm of course). And he'll actually respond.

  • We also have T's and we tell Lulu that if she isn't good her older brothers and sisters are going to eat her. She just wags her tail and licks their aquariums.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Embarrassing things you do to/with your pets : Oh, I have conversations with the cats. Sometimes I interpret what they're saying for my husband. "Leo says he doesn't like that." "Leia wishes you wouldn't run the vaccuum cleaner while she's in the room or while she's napping." If my cats meow with attitude, I'll tell them they're not allowed to speak to me in that tone of voice. If I say no and they meow, I tell them "no talking back!" My aunt regularly receives text messages and e-mails from Leia or Leo. Her cat often replies to them.

That's really funny! I wish we really could know what they're saying/thinking. We kind of assume the loud one just meows to fit in with us talking all the time, but I don't know.
  • X and Gator send lots of text messages and videos to friends.

When I was a kid, someone stole the microwave that my dad left on the porch for my brother to bring into the house - Soda Pop (my dog at the time) was outside and no one heard him bark or anything, so I tell my dogs not to let anyone steal the microwave.

Ok, I do this with my dog. He's a mini schnauzer. He tries to talk back all the time. I swear I'm not crazy.
