Re: AYG

  • So, I haven't been active in my posting-especially lately.  But I tend to read a lot when I'm between appointments or later at night when I have nothing else to do but after the thread has already died.  So here's my grievance about something that comes from that reading:

Chelsea always seems to come into threads that deal with current events or controversial subjects with posts that would lead me to believe she's spent a lot of time thinking about the subject and developing an opinion on it.  Then, once another poster questions here opinion or disagrees with it, I feel like she always either backpedals or says something that insinuates she's changing her position on it.  I'm all for learning more about something and changing your opinion from there but it seems like she's already so passionate about her stance on it-why would she sway so easily in her opinion?

Sara - I think sometimes we ask for T&Ps when it is significant to us but not something others can relate to.  Apparently I was 'most likely to ask for T&Ps' in the Superlatives poll on TN according at least one person...I don't remember asking for T&Ps that much BUT apparently that is how people perceive me. Just let it go, it isn't that big of a deal.

eta: by 'we' I mean people, not anyone in particular.

That would be a very correct assumption.. Hence why I was curious about an example.  I'm not saying you guys are wrong (not saying you're right either), I'm just curious where it's coming from.  The only time I ever change my views is when I learn something new about a situation.  At least as far as I know..

Haha I suppose if I had taken what Duds and others said about my oversharing the wrong way and gotten butthurt about it, I could see how that might have read that way. But, as you can tell, that's certainly not how I meant it.

There's a character on Sons of Anarchy named Chucky, and anytime anyone is mean to him (but in a funny way) he'll say "I accept that". It's kind of his catchphrase. I suppose it kinda rubbed off on me since I've been watching a shitton of SOA lately.

I remember thinking it a couple times, but I don't care enough about TK to remember which threads they were in.  I'll do a little looking because I'm being lazy as shiit IRL right now.  If I can't find anything, if you want, I can certainly point it out if I see it in the future.  (I'm not saying that in a malicious way, either.)

  • Sometimes I think some people are quick to jump to "backpedaling" when honestly sometimes reading other peoples views expose them to new sides they didn't know before. I know sometimes that happens to me, I jump in like "OH HELLLLLL NO" and then once other people explain their views I start to understand the other end.
  • Well, it's not as if I can't remember why I feel that way about your posting- you've provided several occasions in current event or debate threads which lead me to this opinion.  I articulated that in my original post.  I just don't want to wade through your posting history to find all of the threads that jog my memory of you doing this.

Fair enough.  I think shan articulated it very well however.  I stand behind my beliefs.  The only time I ever change how I feel about something is when new information is given to me.  If no new information is given to me, then my stance doesn't change.  Anyone who's argued with me in a pro-life/pro-choice thread knows this. (and no this is not an invitation to start a pro-life/pro-choice debate)

ETA however if you, like J&K want to pm me if it happens again, feel free.  She could be right in that I don't even realize I'm doing it, and I'm never against knowing when I'm being a hypocrite.
