Favorite drug store shampoo/conditioner

I was using Dove for Shampoo and Frizz Ease for conditioner, but I had a sample for Garnier Fructis sleek and shine and it really made my hair shiny!  I thought I didn't like the Fructis line, but maybe I had never tried the sleek shine before.

What is yours?

  • Pantene for thick hair - smooth and shiny, or something like that.  I like the thickness of the conditioner.

  • I use Sheer Blonde.
  • I like the suave professionals line a lot. I plan on trying the suave professionals with keratin soon. Its around $2 in my area.

  • After this I feel I am definitely done with Dove. It seems drying to my hair.  And when you already have dry hair you defnitely don't need your shampoo doing that!
  • I don't know if it's sold at all drug stores, but I like Dessert Essence.

  • I suggest Organix or L'oreal's EverPure. Sulfates are horribly drying on your hair in general, and most drug store brands have em. The ones that don't feel as drying are usually filled with silicons and waxes which cause build up. I was a die hard Pantene fan for years, and switched ot a sulfate free formula about 3 years ago, and it has made a huge difference for my thick frizzy hair. They are sometimes more pricey, but if you color treat your hair, your color will last longer with a sulfate free shampoo, and I find I can also go longer between shampoos.

  • I really like herbal essences, but mostly because of the way they all smell so good lol.

  • That new Loreal Advanced Hair Care for falling hair after using Herbal Essences Honey I'm Strong for months. The HE smell towards the end of big jugs was unbearable.

  • Pantene. I've been using it since high school and was voted "Best Hair in the Senior Class." It never lets me down!

  • I used Herbal Essences since high school up until about a month ago when I cut off all my hair and had it coloured for the first time.  Now I have salon shampoo and conditioner that my stylist recommended.
  • Tresamme, esp. the Touchable Softness line.  You can't beat it, especially for the price.  It is also what my Aveda stylist recommends to clients who can't afford to pay for Aveda shampoo and conditioner.

I know some people love Pantene but it makes me break out in hives and I have heard many stylists warn their clients that it actually dries out the hair because it leaves a waxy coating on it to make it shine.

Drugstore brands, the ones that works for me are Aussie, Herbal Essences and  Dove. Garnier dries my hair out really bad.

I recently switched to the  "sexy hair" line though and use the curly hair formula. I love it and it's relatively inexpensive. I buy it from my hair stylist and it's like $30 for both Shampoo & Conditioner.

That's what I use. Sadly, nothing really calms the frizz but this works better than most.

ETA: It also seems to go on sale a lot, but that's probably just my Walgreens

This. I have always had sensitive skin so I thought it was just me but Pantene does the same to me.
  • Herbal Essences Body Envy,  I have super thin hair, so I take any help I can get!  And it smells amazing.

  • Tresemme.  I have used more than one formula, but use the moisture one right now.  I have tried both Dove and Garnier Fructis.  The Dove was like using nothing.  I realized later that it was because it is designed not to wash out your hair's natural oils.  I am sure that is ok for people who do not have oily hair, but it was gross for me!  And Fructis left this weird film on my hair that I could never wash out no matter how hard I tried.

Have used Pantene and Herbal Essences too, but Tresemme has been the best for me.  Even FI uses it now.  Makes packing for vacation easier when we use the same stuff!  Stylists always comment about how nice my hair is.  I think that may have to do with the fact that I have never colored my hair, I rarely use a dryer or curling iron and I haven't had a perm since 4th grade.
