Wedding Venue suggestions. Pricing.

Hello ladies! this is my first post..finally decided it is about that time I ask for your help! I need to start shopping around for my wedding venue so far I am looking to have around 175-200 guests.  I was looking at a few venues and I just want to know if you can share your experience on the following and what you were quoted p/p. The reason being I don't want to go somewhere that is out of my budget and fall in love.  So I am looking at the Venetian in Garfield, The Tides in N Haledon, and IL Tulipano in Cedar grove.  

If you can suggest any others that I may like similar to these please share your help is appreciated thank you!

    What budget are you working with?

    Also, what date are you looking at? The date can sometimes affect the pricing.

    My reception was at The Tides and I was very happy with everything.

    you ladies are quick ;) i like this! I was really looking into October 2011 and I wouldn't mind at all choosing a Friday or Sunday for a lower price.  I would love to keep it around 75-120 p/p.   I know the Tides are really reasonable I had a cousin who married there and I have them on my list because I know they work with you but they would be my last choice being that a lot of my family chose them as their venue and I would love to do it somewhere different but I'm open to it. Thanks so much for your help!

    I had my reception at the Tides and loved it, I also paid in that range for a Friday night in August with a minimum of 175 people.

    I would think the Venetian is going to be a bit out of that range, it is one of the pricier venues.

    That being said, in the range you listed you may look at the Manor, Brownstone, Bethwood, Graycliff, Mayfair Farms, Perona Farms, just to name a few.

    Thanks hun yes I know the Venetian would be out of my league it's gorgeous. curious lol. I'm going to definitey have to do my best keeping it in close range of budget my fiance would kill me jk. :)

    Our other choices were Bridgewater Manor in Bridgewater, and Costa Del Sol in Union. We inquired about March-April dates (either Friday or Saturday nights) and got quotes of around $80pp before tax and gratuity.

    just a suggestion, but don't start looking at places that you know are way out of your price range, as it will be very disappointing when you fall in love with a venue and realize that you cannot afford it!  

    There was a few venues I had been to for weddings before but I knew were far more expensive than we were willing to spend so I didn't even look at them because I knew I would be disappointed.

    That being said, there are many many beautiful venues that will fall into your range, I only listed a few, I am sure some of the other girls will be able to suggest more.

    I cant express what an event they put on a little over a month ago for me.  Ask for Jimmy to work with, he was amazing.  Best of all, I can stay over every anniversary and have dinner there!

    I'm getting married at The Manor in West Orange in April on a Saturday night. I'm paying $105pp. This includes the ceremony cost, open bar, and viennese hour.

    My November 2011 wedding is on a Friday night at Ravello's in East Hanover - $110/pp (inclusive of tax and gratuity) with a 100 person minimum (but I believe the ballroom can accomodate up to 250).

    Hi!  New to this board, even though we are only three weeks away from the big day.  We difinitely fell within your range at the Bethwood on a Sunday.  They also gave us a nice low minimum of only 65.   Happy hunting & best wishes! :)

    I second the bethwood =) but I'm biased since I'm having mine there.

    I noticed that places that have more than 1 wedding at a time are more "reasonable" with pricing. (I put reasonable in quotations because that word is a matter of opinion) The Bethwood has several rooms but each has its own kitchen and staff so you still get undivided attention (which I know some people have an issue with. Many brides are iffy about anything but a one-wedding-at-a-time location)

    Winter months, Fridays, Sundays, and even Saturday afternoons are decent prices at even higher priced locations.

    FYI - my wedding is 250 ppl, peak season on a sat night - $99 per plate which includes a grand venetian hour, an extra dinner seleaction and a few extra things during cocktail hour (old school europeans - 2 roasted pigs were a necessity)

    The Tides Estate is where we are getting married and your price range falls right into place....... Also looked at the perona farms and they will work with you on a friday or sunday night. The madison hotel, naninas in the park, the venetian, and crystal plaza were all out of our price range which was around your price range so I wouldnt suggest going to those places

    I am looking at the Tides this Saturday.  I am also looking into 2 places down the shore that are supposed to be reasonable as well.  The Channel Club and Branches.

    we are having our wedding at il tulipano in july, i believe it's more expensive in october...it can't hurt to try though bc i think it still falls into your range, maybe a bit higher with tax/gratuity

    We're getting married at The Royal Manor in Garfield, they gave us a great price (around $65 pp) for a sunday afternoon in November.

    Try The Graycliff in Moonachie.  We got a great deal for a Saturday night in March.

    Is your price range before tax and gratuity? And would you cut the Vienesse/

    I am surprised to see people recommending the Brownstone and the Bethwood, being that I've seen so many negative reviews on both. I understand you may have to "share" the venue at some places but from what I hear these 2 places are considered event factories, with up to 5 things going on at once. I've been to both and was "eh" about Brownstone and did not like the Bethwood at all. It reminds me of Medieval Times from the outside (no offense Bethwood ladies - it's all a matter of personal taste but not my cup of tea personally). The food was pretty awful as well - at least the Brownstone had great food. Then again, my cousin went to another wedding at the Bethwood and said it was great.

    That being said, if you can do the higher end of your budget (120 pp) not incl. tax and gratuity, I'd try maybe Valley Regency in Clifton (one wedding at a time).. they might go that low on a Friday or Sunday. With tax and grat though, the pp price rises significantly (like 30 bucks pp more). If 120 is you max price for what your actually paying then def check out the Graycliff. I've been there as well and it's great. Food's good and their grand ballroom is very very nice. Good luck!

    Oh and just an FYI- someone told me that lots of places now are trying to get rid of their 2011 dates since we are nearing the end of the year. So if you are willing to have a shorter engagement (less than 1 year) you may be able to negotiate and get lucky. Try calling a few places you think may be out of your budget BEFORE going there, of course. I'm sure all these venues will give you a price over the phone.

    I feel the same with the Bethwood not much of a fan either but like you said it's a matter of personal preference. I went to a couple of events there and I was not a fan of the food the room was nice but did not like the feeling of the outside.  I like more of the romantic feel of a place.  Also, Brownstone's food is wonderful my engagement party was there but I'm not to fond of the location.  I have heard good reviews about the Valley Regency and I am definitely going to include that one on my list.  I will also include the Graycliff.  thanks so much you ladies are an awesome help! I didn't think I would get responses I guess I was wrong! Laughing

    Just a note on the Valley Regency- when I called I was quoted over $150pp before tax/grat, and the minimum I believe was 150 people. They might be lower on a Sunday, but that is what they told me for a Friday/Saturday event.  We were looking at spring/summer 2011. I would still call there, but it may be a bit on the higher end

Definitely on the top of my list! I am willing to stretch the budget depending on my love for the venue as far as tax and gratuity go.</div>

    It's not a hard and fast rule. The Venetian, Seasons, Rockleigh and Westmount, all which hold two events at a time, are more expensive than some one-event-only venues.

    i've heard wonderful things about il tulipano as well(which is what made us go visit), most people i speak to say the food and service is wonderful...the place is very pretty as well and there is only one event at a time. We are having our ceremony there and they have a pretty outside area for that and also for cocktail hour, weather permitting of course
    so it definitely is the perfect place for us and our budget :)

    i would recommend setting something up with them bc their prices vary depending on time of year

    I agree that it isn't smart to go out to venues that you know are out of your price range because you may end up falling in love, but it never hurts to email or call to ask for prices for the times you're looking for.  Some venues' prices vary greatly depending on time of year/week/day.  I remember two Knotties who got married at Florentine Gardens a few months apart from each other and one paid about half what the other paid (because one wedding was on a summer Saturday and the other was on a winter Sunday).  Same with Crystal Plaza... There was a knottie who kept bringing it up in "Looking for a budget venue" threads and everyone was scratching their heads and asking WTF because it is so often mentioned as an expensive venue -- well, as it turns out the knottie who was recommending it paid around $100 a person (and this was very recent).

    From what I understand, the Venetian has quite a bit of price flexibility as well.  So if you are flexible, maybe it *could* work in your budget.  Just because someone paid a lot more than your budget for it doesn't mean that everyone does.  It is at least worth inquiring.

    I have to throw our venue into the ring because they have been amazing to work with.  We are getting married on 10.10.10 (a sunday) the Royal Princess Yacht which docks in Weehawken NJ. 

    The boat holds 250 max but we are doing a smaller wedding about 100 people.  Like many venues there are different packages to fit with different budgets, i think we went mid range, we are paying $70 per plate and did either the mid or high rage bar package which is $30 per person premium liquors (Irish wedding, what can you do ;)  but it's unlimited.  These prices are before taxes and gratuity, but i would definately give them a call to see if they may fit into your budget. 

    The food tasting was awesome with them, when we needed help finding a DJ they recommended a really nice guy who we ended up liking very much.  Our whole family is from out of town so the idea of sailing around Manhattan on a boat seemed like a really neat site-seeing/wedding event to share with everyone.
