Fittings: what if it doesn't fit?

Hi ladies,

I went in for my first fitting a little while ago, and was having alterations made, and am picking it up on Friday. The whole thing, yes, is a bit early than they otherwise recommend, but I've got other weddings keeping me out of town and work commitments the first two weeks in September so it was either too early or too late. I went with too early. The dress fit fine, a little snug in the, er, rear, but loose in others and long so it was getting altered.

Now, though, between my bachelorette and post-bachelorette hangover this weekend and some stress-eating, I'm really, really worried the dress isn't going to fit when I pick it up this weekend.

Now, if it's a HUGE, "hold on, we need to fix this" problem, then obviously I'll deal with that with the seamstress when we get there on Friday (and probably cry about it like an adult, ha), but part of me's wondering if it's just the problem of a little bit of bloat that I can take care of in the next six or so weeks, is it totally irresponsible to pick up and take home a dress that doesn't fit if I'm confident it can by the time I need to wear it for the wedding? OR should I just stop worrying about it not fitting and instead switch to an all-water-and-celery-diet now? ;) What say you?

First stressing about it is probably not going to help.  I know when I am stressed I like to eat.  Second, if it doesn't fit for some reason, ask you seamstress what she thinks you should do.  I mean you don't want an ill-fitting dress on your wedding day.  In the mean time, stay away from salt and other things that make you bloat.

  • I am having the same problem. When I bought my dress it was a little big. Now it fits me bc I've gained. I admit I have been stressed and not eating right and not very active. Not saying I am over eating just eating and going to bed. Very bad habit I have got into :/. I am bloated going to start taking some water pills. I'm going to start recording what I eat and try to not eat after 7 pm. I also found a site to keep me accountable and help me work out.

  • My first fitting was early and my second is tomorrow. I'm afraid of the same thing as you. I am the same weight I was 3 months ago, but I haven't been gettin got the gym and have lost the muscle tightness I had so I'm nervous. I need to get back to the gym but I keep making excuses (no time especially). I say, drink lots of water and see how it goes from there. That's what I'm going to do. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

  • Do your dresses have those corsetted back thingies?  Aren't they supposed to be somewhat forgiving (within reason)?

It's not corseted, but I know friends of mine who have had that kind of back do that for that reason, ha ha.

  • My problem is my dress fits perfectly now so I have to maintain for 2 months! That is going to be a challenge! I tend to get relaxed when I'm feeling good about my weight and eat more and then freak out and eat less, can we say yo-yo!
