RSVP timeframe

Does anyone know how many weeks before the wedding should have the RSVP's back? I am going to be sending the invitations in May for an August 28th wedding.

Re: RSVP timeframe

  • You should send your invites out 6-8 weeks (up to 10 if it's a DW)

Ask you venue when the last possible day you can give them the final count and then add a week.  Most venues should only require final counts 3-7 days out.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • May is too early.  I'm sending our invites out early because we're out of town for most of our guests and didn't do save-the-dates, but still not that early.

For the RSVP date, Lynda is right.  Work backward from when your venue needs a final count - If venue needs numbers at 5 days, give the RSVP date at 10-12 days before, to give yourself time to follow up with stragglers.

  • In addition to your venue needing to know, are you doing seating assignments?

I think we are setting the RSVP date for a little under a month before, because we need to get our seating charts (assigned tables, not seats) done, tell the people that are making the escort cards (it's included in our venue package), and get the cards to attach them to little jars of jam that will be our favors/escort cards.  It is making me a teensy bit nervous.
  • Typically, invitations are sent out 6-8 weeks before the wedding.  If you did not send STDs and have a lot of OOT guests, some brides will mail their invitations a litte earlier, but not 3-4 months earlier. (May is a bit too early.)  If you send out your invitations too early, people will put them aside and forget to RSVP.

Your RSVP date should be about 7 days before the final counts are due.

RSVP date should be about 3ish weeks before the wedding, depending on when you need numbers.  So for August 28, RSVP date would be around August 7, give or take a week.

Invites go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding, so your mail date would be somewhere in the first half of July.  May is far too early to be sending invitations.
  • We did our RSVP date 2 weeks before the wedding.  Our venue needed the count 1 week before, so it gave us a week for late mailings and to track down any non-repliers.  I think 3-4 weeks it way too far in advance to expect to get them back.  I also think mailing in May for an 8/26 wedding is nuts.  We were married on 8/21 and I think we mailed ours in early July.
  • We are sending our invites out the first week of June for our August 13th wedding.  About nine weeks(summer is busy, giving people lots of notice)

I am planning on wanting the RSVP's back the month before the wedding, that way whoever I need to hunt down for their response I can get a hold of with plenty of time before the final head count which is due the week before.

This for me. I am Getting Married 7/16/11 and I believe that we are sending ours out Early or Mid-May. We are asking for RSVPs 1 month in advance, because we are Catering ourselves. We need to know how much to buy.

It may not be the norm, but I believe it will work for us. I've already had people ask "where's my invite???"
