How to keep the dress from being so itchy?

I've seen several posts about brides dyeing their crinoline a vibrant color and I love the idea, but I don't think it's a separate part on my dress (it wasn't when I tried it on, but it won't be in until June), but I did notice that it was scratchy and I'm not wearing stockings and was thinking now about a half-slip and trying to either find it in turquoise or dye it myself.

Anyone done this or have any suggestions?  I don't want to add more poof to it because I'm not even sure I want all the poof that it comes with, but they recommended I wait until I have the dress in my actual size before I make up my mind on that part.

  • My dress had the tulle crinoline directly against the skin in the sample, but when the actual dress came in, it had a "protective" layer underneath.  So I'd say wait till it comes in to see if the actual dress is that itchy.
  • I used to wear dance costumes with a ton of crinoline in them, and the best thing I could do to keep them from being too itchy (aside from wearing tights of course) was to have really lotioned skin. For some reason, it helped. You might also be able to get a light fabric slip that's flat (so it doesn't have a poof) to keep the contact away from your skin.

  • Thanks ladies.  I found a pretty, long slip (easier said than done) on Dillards' website so I'm going to wait and see what the dress is like when it actually comes in and then see if I need to get one.  I should have plenty of time to get it and dye it even at that point.
