Wedding Party

To ask now or later?

I just got engaged (YAY) but my fiance and I are moving in the next 4-6 weeks to a different state, which raises alot of planning questions, but I'm willing to take on the challenge.  Anyways, because we're moving I'm trying to decide if I should ask those I want in my WP now or wait until later.  I wanted to do it now because I have the opportunity to be face to face with them and ask them personally, but, we're still in the getting ideas for what kind of wedding we want and when (no date is set yet).  My other option, waiting a little later, is that I won't be face to face with them, making it not as personal as I would like it to be!  I don't know what to do.

Ask within a year of the wedding and after you have 1) your venue and 2) your date selected.  Not only can friendships really change after a move, it's really hard for people to commit to be in a wedding when they don't know where or when it is.

Also, I was OOT from all my BMs and asked them all over the phone.  Nothing could be better than to ask them and hear how excited they were, no matter how they are asked.  Remember, the honor is in being asked, not in how they are asked.  Telling them how much you love them, no matter the medium, is enough.

Especially since you've been engaged for all of 5 minutes, just chill on anything wedding-related for awhile and enjoy being engaged.  It's a fun time and you should just milk it for all it's worth :)

A word of warning from your friends at Cracked.com: Remember that text is going to be how you make your first impression over the internet; if every third word you type is misspelled, people will automatically assume that you're a moron.

  • Also, when you do ask them, remember that it doesn't need to be a big production.  If you guys normally do that sort of thing for birthdays or other big events, go for it.  But if not, it will just feel awkward.

  • Yes-stage and brooke are both spot on.  Listen to them.  You'll be happy you did.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • There's no good reason to ask now and a million good reasons to wait.  At the very least, wait to ask them until you get your venues booked.  It's hard for people to commit to something when they don't know when or where it is, and until you've booked a venue, you may need to be flexible with your date.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Ok I'm confused on your page it says your wedding is on 10/10/2010 and you've been engaged over a year. If so, you should have most of the stuff like the venue, caterer, and photographer already picked out. If you are getting married on that date I'd go ahead and ask your attendants.

If you are as you say in your OP just engaged and you don't have a date or anything like that disregard my comments and read the PPs.

    Your post is now confusing.
