Veil

I am hoping that I can restore my mom's veil. I took it apart (she had this strange headpiece on it). I have the beads to sew on it but I have one problem. It's white and my dress is champagen. I need to die it to get it look more ivory. I have heard of dying it in tea but I did a few test strips and I just can't seem to get it darker. The fabric it just tuille. Does anyone know how to do this??

You might need to make it strong (use several tea bags) and make sure the tea is at room temperature. Soak it for a few minutes and do not rinse it.

You might try a black tea for a darker stain. Also, consider a walnut stain from Michaels (scrapbooking aisle) that you can water down and adjust to the darkness you want!

I tea died some lace yesterday but have not tried it on tulle. I used one family sized tea bag to about 2 cups of water. If you go to the fabric store and look att the ivory tulle you will see that it is not very dark at all. Maybe tulle doesn't get that dark??

I died it last night. I guess since it was older fabric it took to it well. Now I just have a problem there is like 3 spots that look like tea marks. Now I just have to figure out how to get them off.

Take a washcloth and wrap it around your finger. Dip it in water and dab the darker spots till they lighten. That should work just fine. :)

My mom did that and got some out. She is working on it now. So hopefully it turns out well. We are sewing beads aorund the outside and then putting rhinestones scattered throughout it. I will post pics when done (I should have taken before pics)
