[QUOTE]as long as you don't have to buy real leather steel toed boots, i dont think its that big of a deal. here's a pair from target for less than $30. http://www.target.com/dp/B002VAEGHA/ref=sc_qi_img_viewdetails?ie=UTF8&title=view%20full%20details If she asked you to buy $30 strappy heals you wouldn't have a problem with that. i think you should just suck it up, its just one day.

My thoughts exactly. I think you guys are jumping the gun assuming she'll have to pay $100 or more. Just find some you can afford.

• Sorry to the bride, but thats pretty ridiculious.... I love my boots, but they're not for everyone. Maybe you could suggest that if she wants to incorporate a county feel to the bridal party she should talk to her florist and see about making the bouquets feel a little more country. But to ask everyone to spend $120 (on the low side) for a pair of boots is kinda crazy.

I don't think my friend's steampunk site can beat Target, and I can't find the link anyway. Sorry. :(

I do love the look... but I'm an Arizona bride with a Calgary groom. It's almost required for us! ;) I know it's not for everyone, and we actually decided against it for own wedding (although I may still sneak cowboy boots into the e-pics). I hope you can find something you love or your friend can compromise on the look. Either way, good luck!

• Is the wedding this July or next July? If it is next July, I would be waiting until winter because they will be cheaper. Plus, maybe the bride will realize she is being unreasonable once she is hanging outside this summer in the sweltering heat! I guess since she is talking about your shoes already, it is probably this summer, in which case I would probably be tempted to try to talk her out of it.

I would wear them for the ceremony and pics but NOT for the entire night.

• I would just let your friend know that your concerned about the price. If she's reasonable she'll understand that your not just traveling to go to the wedding but actualy being in her wedding wich has hidden costs all over the place. If you do end up wearing the boots just make sure to wear good socks that cover the bend of your ankle, get some foot powder like gold bond (i'm a chef on my feet all day and swear by it!) and a pair of flip flops to change into for when the pics are over and you hit the dance floor :)

• When I bartended in college we did a thing for some golf tournament and they required us to wear jean skirts and cowboy boots. I mentioned I did not own any and the guy in charge bought my boots for me. Point, if you are requiring specific shoes, you should pay. (and that was for an event they were paying me to be at!)

If you don't want to rock the boat, look for some cheap boots. I don't think it is uncalled for to tell her next time she brings it up, "Well, I do not currently own any boots and I am not sure I can fit them into the budget right now."

• I have seen it done with the dress that you are wearing (but in coral) and it didn't look too terrible, even if it was NMS. As long as you can find cheaper ones, I don; thin kit will be too terrible. But, if she wants you to have specific boots, you might have to say something about it to her.

But, I live in the South, so its not uncommon around here at all, so I may have a different perspective.

• That's fine & dany if she's going to pay for them. Otherwise I would tell her it's way out of your budget. She's asking tomuch of you since you are already traveling for her wedding. Even cowboy boots at Tractor Supply are expensive especially if you're never going to wear them again. http://www.tractorsupply.com/workwear-clothing-footwear/footwear/ladies-footwear/ladies-pull-on-boots/ And besidea I think that dress is to classy to have cowboy boots with it.

• I know. If I'm going to do it, I'm going to have to go with something super cheap, from Target or something else that isn't going to cost me near $100 for something I'm never absolutely ever going to wear again.

I just told my BMs to wear whatever shoes they were comfortable with. I understand picking a color or something like that, but this is way specific. Undecided

• I'd be tempted to wear the gaudiest, most colorful, blinged-out boots I could find...and have a pair of nice shoes I wanted to wear with me in case the bride didn't want me to wear the boots after all. I probably wouldn't, though, because that's just too mean.

Check thrift stores or second-hand stores to find something that will do...and bring a pair of shoes you like and are comfortable in for after the ceremony. You probably won't want to wear the boots all night.

image Love people. Use things. Never confuse the two.
• If a bride wanted me to wear cowboy boots, a bikini, and a boa, I'd do it. But only if she paid for it.

It'll look ridiculous, but it's not anyone's place to judge her taste. It is, however, not reasonable to expect you to foot the bill for cowboy boots. I'd tell her that you're happy to wear them but that you're not able to afford them. If she buys them, you'll have a fun prop for the rare occasion that cowboy diggs are called for. Or, she might just scrap the idea.
• I love my cowboy boots and they are the most comfortable pair of shoes that I own - but I wouldn't make my girls wear then if they didn't already have any.

I actually used to own a really cheapo pair (with zippers!) but they weren't nearly as comfortable as the real thing. You can absolutely find some for $30 but consider it to be a 1 night thing. My mom actually found a real pair at a flea market sale for $10. Who knows? Take a look around and you may be able to work something out.
• You sound like a nice friend. Smile I would pass along the />$30 Target boot info to the other BMs, if you know them well enough, or the bride, if you think she might want you all to wear matching ones, or if you think others might be interested in buying a cheaper pair. Good luck!

Maybe it's just because I'm a Midwesterner, but can you explain what a "real" pair of cowboy boots is?
• I'm way late to this, but Target had boots on the website..might want to check that out
• I would broach the subject with the bride--I bet she hasn't considered how much this will set you back in addition to everything else you're already paying for.

As far as the heat thing, I wear my boots all the time with short dresses and don't consider them to be any hotter than other footwear. But I'm used to it.

Krysti21--I guessing she would consider a "real pair" to be ones from a boot company, Lucchese, Tony Lama, Justin, etc., not a company that sells them because they're trendy.

OP--If you have some free time (and need "real" boots but don't want to pay $$ for them), check out some antique stores or vintage stores. My favorite pair are men's Tony Lamas that I got for $40 over 6 years ago, and I still wear them all the time. (Granted, I've had them resoled, but it's worth it.)
• I would never ask my BMs to wear cowgirl boots, but I'm wearing mine during the wedding. If she absolutely insists on you wearing the boots, she should pay for them. Since it's in the summer, try to avoid wearing boot socks or cotton ones, opt for the thinner, stocking-like material dress socks, your feet will thank you!

If it's something the bride really wants you to do - do it for her... I think it's silly, but it's something that she's dreamed about. Garage sales, thrift stores, and ebay!! My girlfriend and I found her this AMAZING pair of purple cowboy boots - retail value $200, for $10 and they were in excellent shape. Seriously, I have to buy silver shoes to be a BM and I will never wear those again! But, it's what she wants, so I do it with a smile. All in a days work for a bridesmaid....
• I had to wear some for a show that I was in and found a cute pair from Payless for $20. I would also check like a DSW or other discount shoe store. Ask her if it would be a possibilty to wear them for the wedding and pictures and then change for the reception? I thought I would hate cowboy boots (and yes, they are very hot), but I actually found that they can be very cute.
Good Luck!
• Sorry, you're in the wedding. Ya gotta wear what the bride wants. Having been a bridesmaid WAY more times than I'd like to remember... some of the dresses were BAD and a few were very "THEMEY".... please picture a plus-size girl in a bright yellow kimono and hair sticks (I should add here that the bride was not asian... just thought it was "cute"). I looked like the sun! LOL.

If it's a budget issue.... that's a legit thing to bring up with the bride and try to find boots that fit your budget.

If it's a vanity issue... sorry hun but learn to line dance, throw a cowgirl themed bridal shower, and have fun laughing about it later. Yee Haw!

• I own a few pairs. but then again i live in alberta. I wear them with cute dresses and skirts all the time. But if it's not your style it's not your style!
