Extremely sad hoarding situation

The question in the poll today about who was messier prompted me to post this.  Sorry, don't mean to be such a downer on a Friday, but this story has just bummed me out the past couple days.  It's so sad.

Have any of you watched the show Hoarders?  I've been watching it (prompted me to start cleaning me house Wink.  I have a degree in Psychology, so I guess maybe it made me understand these people a little more and realize they truly do have an illness and aren't just messy people.  I am very sad for them and their families.

Well, here in Vegas, a man reported his 67-yr old wife as missing back at the end of April.  They have 2 houses and are hoarders.  They brought the dogs in, searched the desert surrounding the house, nothing.  The husband started cleaning out the back room of one of the houses and saw her shoes...her body has been in the house this whole time, buried alive by her own hoarding.

Again, sorry to be such a downer today.  Certainly no responses needed to this (I'll be on and off today anyway, have some errands to run), I just needed to get this one off my chest, I'm so saddened for her family.

    Whoa.  That's...crazy...and disgusting.

My mother is a borderline hoarder.  It was a terrible thing to grow up in.  It has gotten 10 times worse since I moved out about 8 years ago (I always did my best to keep it as clean as I possibly could growing up there).  And just like on the shows on TV, it's something that has caused me and my older brother and his family not to go over there.  Of course, she has alot more mental problems and that weighs in on why we don't visit, but the hoarding is a huge reason too.

On the subject of hoarding but not people hoarding.  When i was working at safeway i noticed this couple from the start of my shift at 6 a.m.  They had there dog tied to there truck and had a wood stool in there that the dog would sit on.  They proceeded to drive around the parking lot with the dog tied on there.  Not once had they fed the dog or checked on it since 8 a.m.  I saw them get in another car at 10 a.m and they just left the dog in the hot sun.  I was in the middle of bringing the dog water when w a customer called animal control.  They got there and the lady and i showed them the dog and the one cat we believed to be in the truck.  Mind you this is a pick up truck.  They ended up pulling out 18 cats and the one dog.  The cats were living underneath the seats.  Purly digusted at it.  They had to bring out two rescue vehicles to fit all the animals in there.  The lady and the man returned and could not comprehend what she did wrong.  I do apologise for the off topic but had to share with the hoarding.

Animal hoarding is even worse.  That just makes me soooo sad.  And typically animal hoarders think they are doing the "right thing" because they love animals but they let them live in horrific conditions :(

DId you happen to catch the episode of hoarders where they found all the cats...not talking about live cats?  It's too gruesome to go into details.  I agree, they think they're saving the animals and they really do love them, they just don't realize they're going about it wrong.

Hoarders can be "rehabilitated" - just like with an addiction, a lot of therapy and an effort to work at it (and help from loved ones) they can turn things around.   Soon2B, I hope this happens in your family.
