I want to kick Cigna square in the balls.
Backstory--with Cigna I am only allowed to be reimbursed for in-network service providers. My oral surgeon happened to be out of network. When I realized this, cue an afternoon of sobbing and freaking out and then I got it together and started doing research. There's an exception that if no in-network providers are within a 25 mile radius of your home, you can use a provider of your choice. Thank God I live in Westbumblefuck because that was the case. So permission was granted to have my surgery with the surgeon of my choice.
I started getting tons of mail from Cigna. I got like 4 different letters authorizing my surgery. Upon inspection, I realized that they had authorized my doctor, the hospital, and the anesthesiologists all seperately. I was thinking, "well thank God Dr. Farrell's office took care of all that because I never would have thought to get all of them authorized."
Turns out Dr. Farrell's intern also operated on me, and billed seperately. So Cigna assholes denied the reimbursement.
When I realized this, I called them, and the customer service guy said he would get it fixed and that it might take a while.
Flashfoward to now: It's been weeks. It's still not approved. Those aholes just called me and told me it was denied because he was out of network. Well noshit Sherlock. Not surprisingly, as much trouble as I've had with them, I started getting angry and it probably showed in my voice. Bitch RAISED HER VOICE AT ME. Um, no.
"Stop yelling at me!"
"I'M NOT"
"Really?! How do you have a job? Act like a professional, please."
That shut her up.
Anyway, stupid hosebeast is going to appeal it but she played dumb the whole time like I could have some way prevented this.

Re: AHHHHHHKELLYCLARKSON!!!!111!!!!
Some excellent nuggets include being from Westbumblefuck, the noshitSherlock realization, bitch raising her voice at you and the whole EATADICKCIGNAIHATEYOUDIE thing.
Have a beer - you've earned it.
Everything the light touches is my kingdom.
I'm stressed out for you. Not cool, Cigna, not cool. I hope they get their shiit together.
I joke with DH that I only married him for his BCBS benefits.
I'm surprised that's not what she told me when I asked why I wasn't being reimbursed.
I have them too and have had nothing but problems with them. some of my fertility stuff is covered and some isn't. I just got a $1,500 bill the other day for bloodwork. Yup. Bloodwork.
I miss Aetna
I hope they get their shiit together and cover your oral surgeon. If, for some reason, you feel the need to storm their offices you can count me in.
My work went from Blue Cross Blue Shield to Cigna. I wanted to punch them in the balls. It was AWFUL. I had to pay out the buttcrack for everything. I joke with DH that I only married him for his BCBS benefits.

Yes! I had BCBS when I was in the Big 4. If I had any idea how much everyone else sucked, I would have stayed there, hate my job or not. This blows. I seriously fight when them allthetime. They get out of trying to pay for EVERYTHING. I went without my antidepressants for 3 weeks because my doctor left "other methods of treatment tried" blank.
Great, I just had bloodwork done this morning for the same thing. ::pulls out sword and sheath::
I actually have double coverage. I have Cigna through my work and secondary coverage through Tim, also Cigna. You'd think everything would be awesome, but it totally blows because they're two separate divisions of Cigna and neither one can decide who's going to pay for what. I'm trying to drop mine but they won't let me make any changes until open enrollment.
How much do you think napalm goes for these days?
Once I had an argument with a cashier at Staples and she called me a bitch. Little did she know, I am the person that calls Corporate AND writes a letter. She no longer works for Staples.
I made a bio?!?
Heels, that sucks. Hopefully it gets resolved soon. Once I had an argument with a cashier at Staples and she called me a bitch. Little did she know, I am the person that calls Corporate AND writes a letter. She no longer works for Staples.

Those A-holes called me one day about a month ago and asked if I have any other coverage, I guess because if I did, they were going to try to get out of paying even more? Wtf is the point in having a 2nd policy, then?! gahhhhhhhhhhhhh
N, I am, too. I asked for that bitch's first and last name before I got off the phone with her. She hesitated for a minute so I hope she's buggin wondering if I'm going to get her in trouble. I hope they recorded the convo so they can go back and here her lose her temper with a customer.
Yes, Heels! I get a sadistic pleasure out of imagining the stress these CR people have when they realize yes, this woman will call my manager and yes, she will follow up like it's her job.
The other day my cable company sent a supervisor to fix an issue that was going on for months (and multiple techs came out already). I think he came out because I told him he was probably too afraid of me to actually handle the case. My internet has worked every since.
I made a bio?!?
Wow. That sucks ass. I'm not going to lie, I'm kind of terrified of going from my yay Canadian health care to the US. I have to find a otolaryngologist that deals with voice disorders for my surgeries, and I'm kinda worried it's going to end up being a sh*tstorm and cost a ton of money.

Hilarious! I should call my mom, she'd love that story.
Sucrets, I'm doing ok. There wasn't much pain during recovery, but some things I didn't expect kind of have me bummed out. They bumped a nerve during surgery and I have no feeling in my lower lip or jaw, even almost 2 months after surgery. It was nice when I was enjoying a relatively pain-free recovery, but now I would like to be able to feel myself kissing my husband and know when there is food on my chin (which lately is more often than not). The incision sites get rubbed by my braces so they are always sore. I've had to relearn how to speak and even though I sound normal fnally, it's still really hard for me to talk.
Pity party, table of one. Blah.

That sucks, I'm a Cigna person too and was wondering if they covered any fertility stuff.
House / Baby blog
Heels, I work in medical billing, they can't bill under an intern or a resident, it has to be billed under the senior MD. Interns and residents aren't enrolled as a provider yet with insurance companies.
I didn't read all the other responses, so someone else may have already said that, and I haven't had my coffee so you yourself may have said that's what they were fixing in the OP but yeah, that's what should be changed for Cigna to process it.
Good Luck!
I think I used the wrong word. I think the bill said assistant, not intern. Can assistants bill?
Posted by goheels05
Physician assistants can. They are mid-level providers similar to nurse practitioners and would have to enroll separately with the insurance company. (I work in billing as well, and H is a PA)
