Dress confusion

I'm so confused now on what I want for a dress. At first I really wanted a sweetheart neck, mermaid style dress with some bling and a corset back. Now I'm loving dresses with spaghetti straps or cap sleeves and a dramatically open back.

I really don't know. I'm finding a lot of dresses that are fitting my new criteria but they seem like they will be a lot more expensive that my budget can allow.

How did you decide what style you wante?

Re: Dress confusion

  • Have you gone to try dresses on yet?

  • Do you have any pictures of dresses that you like? Like any inspirations?

When I started thinking about wedding dresses, I thought I wanted a white dress with a sweetheart neckline with a ballgown skirt and bling. I ended up buying an ivory, semi sweetheart neckline dress with an A-line skirt covered in beautiful flowers with pearls and sequins in each flower. I love that dress.

It's all about trying on dresses. You might think you like one style of a dress but then when you try it on, you might not like the way it looks on you. You might end up buying a dress that you wouldn't even imagine that you might like because it looked beautiful on you.

  • I'd also like to know if you've tried on yet.  I thought I wanted something very clean and modern.  I was thinking a sheeth or something with a empire waist and a slight A line.  I ended up with a tulle and lace A line that is almost a ball gown style.  Nothing like I thought I wanted, but it was completely ME!  I think you really have to keep an open mind and try lots of dresses on.

  • You really won't know until you try stuff on, TBH- if you haven't already. The styles of dresses I tried on were those I never thought would look good on me in a million years, but was pleasantly surprised. I'd work with what styles you like on, then figure out budget :-)

  • I've tried on dresses, about 12 maybe. Most were the mermaid style I wanted, which I thuoght really flattered me, a few were with a dropped waist and A line which I didn't like at all.

I haven't tried on any with an open back yet. I'm going shopping again on the 10th of March so hopefully I can find some.

  • Most of the stores I went to said we couldn't take pictures unless we bought the dress. Is that normal?

  • None of the stores I went to cared about taking pictures, but I know some stores do (maybe dependent on part of the country?).

Also, I ended up getting almost exactly what I'd pictured- dropped waist A-line, but I did find that some other styles actually looked really good on me. If I hadn't found the dress I went with, there's a good chance I would have gone with something in a different shape.

In terms of budget, take some pictures of stuff you like with you and let them pull dresses that are similar or have the elements you want within in your budget.
