guys attire vs. girls attire

Our wedding is a very laid back country, rustic wedding... the ceremony will be outside and the reception will be in a big building on the local fairgrounds. I am having trouble finding something suitable for the guys, its the end of August so its going to be extremely hot and I hate the idea of them having to wear black. The girls are wearing long dresses, so my question is... do the guys need to have jackets to fit the "dressy look" and would it be too casual for them to just wear a vest with a tie if the girls had floor length dresses? Any suggestions are appreciated :)

Another thought ... what do you expect your male guests (in general) to be wearing? Your groom and groomsmen should be dressed at LEAST as nicely as the male guests, if not nicer than them. You, FI and the bridal party should be the best-dressed people at the wedding.

If you are having the type of wedding where something like khakis and polo shirts are typical for men to wear to weddings ... then doing vests and ties with no jackets for the groomsmen is probably fine. But if most male guests will be wearing sports jackets or suits, then I would definitely have the groomsmen in jackets as well.

And how formal is your own dress? It'd look pretty silly if you're in an elegant, formal ballgown and your bridal party and FI are all dressed casually.

    More details, please.

  • I agree with everyone else.  Why for a rustic outdoor wedding would the bridesmaids be wearing long gowns?  If it is more formal, guys wear jackets.  But l do like the idea of vests and ties like the picture above if it is more casual.
