NWR: Adventures in Baking

So, my mom's birthday is tomorrow, but we're getting together today to celebrate and I'm always in charge of the cake.  I love to bake (usually) but can't do it that often with my crazy sweet tooth.  I also love to experiment with flavors so I went with two of her favorites today, grapefruit and ginger.  The cake is a white caked spiced with ground ginger and filled with a ginger grapefruit curd.  I made swiss meringue buttercream for the first time, I'm not really a fan, it's WAYYYY too buttery for me. 




All boxed up and ready to go!  Now here's hoping for a successful 20-minute car ride to her house with a crazy 2 year old mutt running around the car!

  • Shut the front door.  I am crazy impressed with your skills!  You'll have to update on whether or not any is left over by the end of the day- I bet not.  Enjoy your moms Bday!

    I love to bake and have a similar problem as you with my sweet tooth :-)  but I am no wear near as talented when it comes to decorating!  Great job!

    My matron of honor's son's 1st birthday is in 2 weeks and I'm making his little smash cake, soo excited (I know it's sad, lol)  And, I'm actually decorating our wedding cake too.  I'm too much of a control freak to leave that to someone else, oops.
