Where to take Wedding photos

Hi all,

I am having a 1920's inspired wedding and have run into a problem:  Where the heck do I take my pictures with the bridal party between the ceremony and reception?  I tried getting creative, but a few of the places I contacted where not acclimated to accomidating this type of thing, or had a prior event that would interfere with picture taking.  I am wondering what you, the knoties, suggest for me :)

Things that might help:
I am having my wedding in the southeast Michigan (Detroit Metropolitan area).
I already contacted "The Players" detroit (a theatrical facility built and established in 1910),
the Grosse Pointe War Memorial, and the Henry Ford House).  I also tried belle isle conservatory and they have strange time slots that don't line up with the schedule that day :(  The event is on November 3rd (a few weeks away)...

Even if you are not from this area, you might still have some creative ideas hopefully!  Thanks for all of your help Knotties!!!

Re: Where to take Wedding photos

  • The Guardian Building and Fisher Theater have lovely "art deco" styled lobbies that are open to the public (I think). Pretty sure the Fox won't allow you take pictures indoors, but you can do whatever you want outdoors in front of the theater.

There are lovely buildings on the Wayne State University grounds, but off the top of my head I can't think of which ones. I know they have some with marble. There's the Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Main Public Library, both on Woodward.

It sounds as though you want stylish/art deco types of venues. However, if you don't mind outdoors, Greenmead Village in Livonia (8 Mile & Newburgh intersection) has historic homes, almost all painted white, a barn, a chapel, and you can just go in and take pictures outdoors since it's a city park. We had our wedding there, and there was a bride & groom & photographer taking pictures on our wedding day, LOL.

I would also try Cliff Bells.  It is an old jazz club that originally opened in 1935 and was restored and reopened a few years ago.  It's located downtown Detroit at 2030 Park Ave., Detroit 48226.

  • The whitney would be cool too but you may have a hard time getting inside for photos still...

[QUOTE]Try contacting The Fillmore or The Fox.  There are plenty of places downtown that have the look that you're going for.  They may charge though, so that may be something that stops you from going that route. By Henry Ford House do you mean the one in Dearborn or the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe?  The E&E Ford would be a beautiful place to take photos. What does your timeline look like for BP photos?

I actually checked out both of those.  They did not have my date available for the GP location.  I wouln't be able to make it on time from my location to the one in Dearborn before they close :(( so sad.  Thank you for the great recomendations <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" />

Ahh, I love that place, I almost had my reception there actually!  Unfortunately we can't do them there :(  I would have done it in a heartbeat tho!
