Inexpensive Engagement Photos?

Hi all!

My fiance and I would like to get some very inexpensive engagement photos done.  Since we are verrrrry tight on budget, we were thinking about using an indoor studio, much along the lines of Picture People or JCPenney.  Do any of you in NNJ have any recommendations?

Thanks!

A friend of mine took ours.  We only paid for the cost of prints.

We actually went to JCPenny and they turned out nice.  We went there because we wanted to put an announcement in the paper with a picture and needed something done quick.

Did you book your photographer yet? Ours included e-pics at no extra cost.

Do you just need them for a newspaper announcement? I used to work for a paper and we printed lots of engagement announcements that used regular pics, not a pro pic. As long as it's a clear shot they should accept it.

Does a friend have a nice camera? Maybe (s)he can help you out. Some of my friends who have SLR cameras take really nice photos.

As PP said, many photographers include engagement sessions as part of their packages.  If you are not in a rush, maybe hold off and wait to do it once you book your photographer. Plus, it's a great opportunity to get to learn how your photographer works so you can be more comfortable with them on your wedding day.

How much are you looking to spend?

Studio pictures for E pics are a bit outdated, if you do them, I would do them on a seamless white background.  In the big box stores, you are limited on the posing, and the prints and digital file packages, even at those places, add up, make sure you read the fine print.  If you are only looking for one image like for the newspaper, I can see this possibly working, but I don't feel it's good value if you want a decent amount of proofs to choose from and perhaps make prints of or a photobook down the road.

You can probably find a photographer to do a full custom portrait session starting at around 200-250ish depending on what you want (digital files or prints).  I sent you a PM

I got a livingsocial deal for Picture People...I think it was five or six sheets plus a photo cd for $25. The sheets were all of the same pose, which was a little disappointing, but you can't beat the price. Additional sheets were not much extra (maybe $10 or so? I don't remember). The photographer had us do a lot of different poses and the photos came out great. It's still too soon for me to book a photographer for my wedding (since it's in July 2013) and we're on a tight budget, so this worked out for me. I'm still new to wedding planning, so I didn't even know what engagement photos were for until recently haha. It's just nice to have professional photos of us together.
