  I'm SO sorry you're having this drama!  Do you still want the original dress?  Insist the salon contact the designer to find out if any store in the US has the dress you want in the color and size you need.  The salon screwed up, not you.  They should pay the expense of getting the dress FedEx'd to you along with any drycleaning the sample dress may need.   And you shouldn't have to pay for any alterations just out of goodwill for the huge mistake that was made.
  
  Or, demand your deposit back and look elsewhere for something off the rack.

  This is totally their mistake and should take full responsibility if they are a reputable business. They shouldn't even consider that you just take the one they ordered by mistake. If they do, I would demand my deposit back. If they refuse, let them know that you'll be seeking legal advice. In the meantime, you could find something off the rack just as lovely.

  Definitely demand your deposit back. If you still really want your original dress, demand that the store find a sample at another store or call the designer and see if there's a way to get it to you ASAP.  If you might be okay with another dress, start shopping NOW and make sure you only look at sample dresses that you can take home with you.  Davids Bridal is good about that, but many other shops will let you buy samples, especially if you tell them what happened.
