Changing my name

So, I'm in the middle of it. I requested a new social security card, which should get here in less than 2 weeks. I think I can go to the DMV even before I get that (they want the marriage certificate, my license, birth certificate, and proof of insurance), and then once I get the new license I can change everything else.

But I feel funny being in last-name-limbo. It's like, according to some things I'm one person, and according to other things I'm a different person.

What a weird situation this is.

You should be able to go to the DMV before your new social security card comes in - I was able to do both on the same day I just needed to have my marriage license in hand

And I feel you on the last-name limbo thing - I still get stuff in my maiden name. Specifically my cell-phone bill even though I've changed my name with them 3 times now - I've just given up on it for the moment

Welcome to the process .... it sucks.

You should go and a form from the social security office (you can only get it 24 hours after you change your name in thier system) that has your social and your new name on it. Its just a print out that they stamp and sign. I don't know how it works in LA but for me, they had to have that in order to change my name at the DMV prior to recieving my new SS card in the mail. I found out the hard way because they did not say I needed have that, and then after waiting 4 hours they turned me away and said come back the next day with that form.

Dude, if they turn me away I'll just wait for the new ss card. Besides, we have an express DMV and I'm going to try there first. Generally the wait at that one is less than an hour.

Kat- Married life is blissfully NORMAL. I cannot explain to you how wonderful it feels to be (slowly) getting back to our normal life. We still need to work on thank-yous and we just ordered a new TV stand, bookcase, and coffee table set with most of our wedding money (I have always dreamed of having matching furniture in my home, go figure).

We got all our gifts unpacked and put away. For about a week you'd have thought we just moved in because of all the boxes and packaging everywhere.

I'm still not quite used to the whole "husband/wife" titles. I just got used to "fiance." But I like it.

Some of our friends have posted pictures from our wedding, and I love looking at those. Not in a sad way, but in a happy way. I had a lot of fun, and it was literally the happiest day of my life (so far). Nothing could have brought me down from that high once I was actually at the wedding location and was able to sneak a few minutes with Josh before the ceremony. It's wonderful to look back on.

My mom, on the other hand, is struggling with post-wedding blues. I think she has stopped crying over it, but it's all she wants to talk about. Wedding this, wedding that.... I'm over the wedding. Fun times, but look at what we have now! A marriage! A great one! We even had our first married disagreement the other night. And you know what? We can still argue and disagree, and then kiss and make up and come to a compromise. It was totally fine because NOTHING HAS CHANGED BETWEEN US. Everything is the same as it has been for the last 3 years we've lived together.

I couldn't be happier. There's just this understanding and realization between us that this is forever, for real. Nothing can come between us. We put each other and our relationship before anything else, and we both just KNOW that. Sure, it was that way before... but it's serious now. I'm his wife and he's my husband. It's like, everything we already had was just framed and hung on the wall.

I don't really know what that means in English, but it's how our marriage feels to me.

Jeana, I think that's a lovely way of saying it. I'm so glad everything is going well and for your fun new furniture! I hope your mom will get over it soon. Maybe once she has some wedding photos in hand she'll calm down a bit.

They would LOVE it if he had laser eyes.

I asked him the other day if he was looking at my chest. He swears it isn't so, but also says "So what if I was? I'm your husband!"

He was probably giving me the side-eye.

LOL, I just thought-- if anything, he was looking at my boobs going WTF?

My dress was too big (especially in the bust) so I had these double-your-cup-size silicone inserts in my bra. I have totally small boobs... so he was probably like "where did THOSE come from???"

LOL I have the exact opposite problem! I have more than my share up top , and when trying on dresses actually looked at a halter style dress much like yours and it just didn't work. Though strapless definitely is going to accentuate it , hoping I won't look too weird with the alterations done. In my dress I feel like they triple in size..
