waiting a week for honeymoon

Hello! Wanted to get some opinions on this; we just realized the date we wanted to have our wedding on won't work because it is the day before easter. So we were thinking of pushing our wedding to a week earlier; but then we would have to wait a week before going on our honemoon (i'm in nursing school).   We would save a lot of money getting married in march, and maybe be able to afford a nice venue, but i'm not sure how i feel about waiting a week before going on our honeymoon.

Any thoughts?

Re: waiting a week for honeymoon

  • We are waiting a week for our honeymoon. It will give us time to relax and pack and drive back to our home.  Also at least for where we've been looking for our honeymoon (Antigua) most of the flights are on Saturday so we'd have to wait a week no matter what.

Lots of people wait to do their honeymoon (not just weeks, but months or even years).  I'd definitely book the wedding a week early if it means a nicer, cheaper wedding for you.

  • We waited 6 months.  It wasn't a big deal at all to us.
  • I was always the "you have to go right away or it's not a honeymoon it's a vacation" kind of opinion.  But since FI and I are having a "DW" anyway, we will take a few extra days to get back just the two of us, and then go on our HM a month or so later.  We really want to go to Nashville and there are some really cool thing we'd like to do going on about 5 weeks later.  It will give us time to get home and regroup with his business and my job before going and taking another 10 days.

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • A week is nothing.  I actually wish H and I waited a week before we left for our honeymoon.  In the days leading up to the wedding I was so busy with other things that I waited until Sunday (wedding was on Saturday and we left Monday for our HM) to pack.  Needless to say I was extrememly exhausted and H was slightly hungover so neither of us felt like doing anything.  A week would have been nice to be able to relax and recuperate after the wedding and really get things in order before leaving for our HM.

  • Eh, our friends got married in July and waited a week for their HM due to a time-share they were using.  She said it that for both of them with the anticipation, it was the worst week of their lifes and if they could do anything different, it would have been to either wait longer for the HM, or to leave for it within a day or two of the wedding.
  • We waited four and a half months to go on ours and it was great. We were so much more relaxed than we would've been right after the wedding.

  • We got married on Sep 17 & left for our HM on Dec 5th, and had absolutely no regrets!  Lots of family was in from out of town/state, so we got the extra time after the wedding to spend catching up with them, unwinding from the wedding, returning tuxes, and even finished our thank you's in the week right after the wedding.

Plus - the nice thing for us was that our wedding was in the summer, but we got to escape to warm beach weather in December when it was snowing at home!!!

I think you can find pro's and con's to both, but if you've already got it booked, don't pay to change it, just make the most of the week you've got before jetting off on your first adventure as husband & wife!

  • I have to wait a few weeks because I am a teacher. Just because I can not go on a honeymoon right away does not take away from the fact that it will be our first romantic vaca as a married couple.

  • We are probably going to wait about 2 weeks before we go on ours. I like the idea of visiting with OOT guests that are staying a while and getting our gifts and such put away before we rush off.

We are getting married on a Friday and leave the Monday after our wedding.  If you are going to save a ton of money by getting married in March and then waiting only 1 week for your HM.  I would wait the week save the cash and put it towards your HM.

  • if thats your best option then do it.
unless someone has taken 2 HMs (one right after and one delayed) it's impossible to tell which is better as there's no way to compare.

  • It was the best decsion we made by waiting a week. We were so happy to be able to pack and relax and take the wedding in before leaving the country for two weeks.
  • I have to wait a month and a half (almost) for our honeymoon. While I do wish we could go right away, I can't because I am also a teacher.. However, I know that we will be relaxed on the honey moon and have time to prepare for it!

We are planning on just taking a one night g local et-away on Sunday night (getting married on Saturday) so we don't just go back to work Monday morning like the wedding never happened.. that's anticlimatic!
