Blue Flower ideas

I really love the color blue- particularly medium blue- but I have found the flower choices for a natural blue flower are kind of limited... does any one have ideas?

Re: Blue Flower ideas

  • There really are very few flowers that are naturally blue.  The only true blue ones are hydrangeas, delphinium, bachelor button and bluebonnet (though that is a Texas flower, so availability is limited).  Phlox supposedly also can be blue, but it's a light blueish purple, and it's apparently not really common.

Flowers can be dyed, and that opens up your options a little more.  They are a little more expensive since time and care have to go into the process, but roses, orchids, calla lilies, and carnations I know can all be dyed.

Honestly, I would try to incorporate your love of blue into different aspects of your wedding besides your flowers.  Like PP mentioned there are very few naturally occuring blue flowers and the one's that are dyed just look fake and can possibly bleed into the water (if you are having clear vases) and worse on your dress.

I had marine blue dresses.  The first photo is the bridesmaids' bouquets with hydrangea (blue)  billiballs (yellow) and calla lilies (white).  the second photo is my bouquet with hydrangea, roses, gerbera, calla lilies and roses.
  • Blue is our main wedding colour, but we are not using it in any of the bouquets or any flowers except the large decoration for the front of the church which will have blue delphiniums in it.

If you're not set on blue flowers, you can have lots of other places to incorporate blue and have more natural looking flowers

  • I'm in the same boat.  But we're going with white flowers and adding a touch of pink flowers in the bouquets and blue ribbon.

Problem comes in with the bouts...the men are all wearing white/ivory shirts and white flowers won't show up well on that so still may need a blue flower.  They aren't going to go with the pink rose there!

  • i know the first one aren't blue, but you may be able to find the same flower but dyed in blue.  The second flower below is anemone (*I believe*).

keep hunting and do the homework. I'm in fall and want a navy brides bouquet and baby's breath BM bouquets.
    Best Wishes!
