How Far is too far?

My fiancee and I want to have a wedding on the beach. We found a perfect place. Currently I live on the West side of Michigan, and want to have it in Kalamazoo (30 minutes from my house). BUT, my fiancee's family and my family are all located on the east side. Is asking them to drive 2.5 hours for a wedding too much?

*wedding is on sat. night :]

Re: How Far is too far?

  • I've been having this same debate myself... i could save 1500 dollars and go 2 1/2 to 3 hours hours away for pretty much everyone. OR I could spend more and only be an hour or just over an hour away. I'm leaning toward the closer place because its easier and i also like it better. It ends late so they may choose to stay over but they could drive home if they'd rather.

But... most of our guests (family) are all coming from out of state anyway so they'd have to drive/fly and spend the night no matter what. But we also have guests coming from our area as well.
  • I would talk to your VIP guests and see what they say, but it is ultimately up to you and your FI.

  • See if there is a hotel nearby your venue that will allow you to block rooms at a discounted rate to make the trip easier for traveling guests.  . . . . then include that information in a STD or on you wedding website.
