bridesmaids attire

why can't everyone be the same exact size & shape. gahhhhhhhh. finding bridesmaids dresses that compliment everyone and aren't retarded looking has been quite the challenge. can i get some feedback on telling the bridesmaids to find the same color dress and whatever style they want? sloppy? modern? i saw a picture on pinterest where they all wore soft pink cocktail dresses just different styles. although i think there is a reason that the picture is so popular on pinterest, because it's not that simple and easy to pull off.

ps i hate hate hate davids bridal. they charge a ridiculous amount for some of the ugliest creations i've ever seen. and in the past i've been a bridesmaid in some weddings that i had to get my dress from them and they rubbed me the wrong way. one of my friends got her dress on sale there and they acted like she was a peasant because she saved a couple hundred bucks and was excited about. ummm snobs? check.

  • I know you don't like David's Bridal but this is what I did:
I chose a color, length & fabric at DB and told the girls they could have any dress fitting these.  I chose DB because they are less expensive than the designer brands.  I did that knowing that the customer service isn't great and the quality isn't either, but my BMs appreiciated that I considered their budgets as well since they will probably only wear once. (my sister got her dress online for $30 so they do have great sales online sometimes)  I know not everyone likes the mismatched BM look. but I was fine with it & the girls get dresses they are each comfortable with.   These are the dresses my BMs are got:

  • I totally know what you mean. I have girls from 5 Ft size 18 to almost 6Ft size 4! I chose Bari Jay dresses. They are the same dress but its very flattering for all. Dessy was the runner up brand. They have alot of dresses you can do same color different style. Alfred Angelo too.

[QUOTE]Lauren, I've done a LOT of BM dress searching.  Do you have any particular style or color in mind?  Maybe I can send you some links? I actually think we're going to go with a David's Bridal dress for a few reasons.   It is affordable, I think it's cute and will flatter all shapes, and we know a few BMs who have actually worn it before, and worn it again.  I have seen brides to the "pick your own" option with more guidance, like all one designer, fabric, and color. I am personally not a huge fan of really mismatched bridal parties, but that's just my taste, not a judgment! Seriously, let me know if you want some help looking and just give me some clues in the right direction!

  • Hi Lauren! I had the same awful experience at David's. I refused to order my dress or dresses for my girls from them. I actually found my dresses at anntaylor.com. They have different styles that you can order in the same color and material. And they always have a sale (they are pricey at full cost, but I had everyone order them when it was 40% off). Good luck!
  • I looked at alfred angelo and davids bridal and i felt that davids bridals dresses were weird lengths, either way too short or or just weird other lengths.

we went with alfred angelo 7123, it looks great on all body types, my sister is pear shaped, i have a bridesmaid with no curves, curvy bridesmaid, large breasted bridesmaid and it looked good on all of them! The bridal consultatant said she saw a size 30 bride rock the dress and she looked good!

  • I decided to not go to ANY bridal shops for BM dresses.  Most of the ones I saw while I was looking for my dress were way too expensive for the quality and many were ugly.  Instead, I had my girls get their's from WHBM.  I found a 30% off coupon code so I think they ended up being between $120-$130.  I also looked at Banana Republic, Macy's, and J.Crew.  They all had nice options.

  • I'm a huge fan of letting the girls pick out their own styles. My BP was all different sizes and shapes also, so I found letting them pick the silhouette for their dress was easiest. I chose the designer (Waters or WToo), same material, same length, same colors. Each of my girls picked out a different dress. Everything looked complimentary in photos and every girl was comfortable in the style they chose.
  • My dresses are from Ann Taylor. I let the girls pick between two styles and they all picked the same one. I can quite honestly say that the dress they chose would look good on any figure. The only thing is I don't think AT does plus sizes if that is one of your needs.
