Baby Names

I took this from another board because I need entertainment for the last bit of work plus we did a lot of baby talk today...

Have you and FI/DH discussed possible baby names if you're planning on having kids?

What are your favorite names?

What are names that FI likes that you hate?  Or vice versa?

Have you and FI/DH discussed possible baby names if you're planning on having kids? We actually talk about it all the time, even though it will be several years before we have them. I guess we just wish time would go by faster.

What are your favorite names? We have four names we like, two boy and two girl. I want a ton of kids! Boys names are Dante Luis (Luis is FI's name) and Braydon Daniel (Daniels is my gma's maiden name) and Girls are Sophia Rose (my ggma is Sophia) and Lillie Grace (Grace is my gma)

What are names that FI likes that you hate?  Or vice versa?FI is obsessed with having a Jr, I don't want it. FI's name is beyond stereotypical, so when we moved out of NJ and he needed to get a new license in the new state it took 6 months since someone in MA with the same name an birthday had a DUI! I can't do that to my child! And FI hated the name Sheila...

We have talked about it for years- although our most current name discussions are for a dog :-) We initially wanted all M names but now I don't like that idea... DH wants Mackenzie for a girl, another girls name would be Madison. Boys I love Aidan and Bradley. I joke that I want my girl to be Mackayla just so I can incorporate my maiden name, but DH just rolls his eyes at me.

Have you and FI/DH discussed possible baby names if you're planning on having kids?
Yes- we joke about it all the time because we never agree on girl names but always agree on very standard bible names for boys.

    What are your favorite names?
Girls- I like Julie and Amelia. Boys- Anthony Jr., Michael, Jacob

What are names that FI likes that you hate?  Or vice versa?
FI is also obsessed with a Jr. but I like his name so it's fine.

What are your favorite names?  For a girl: Mia Sofia  For a boy: Javier Alejandro

What are names that FI likes that you hate?  Or vice versa?   FI loves names that he remembers from when he was in Ecudaor like Yessenia, Yadira, Yanira, and Yimabel all for girls.  I almost had a heart attack when I heard them so now he says one of those will be the name of our future dog.  I'm praying we get a male dog.

    What are your favorite names?
right now we only really agree on girl names, either molly, olivia, sophia or maybe angelina....
he wants to name our first son lou jr....i don't hate it, but, not sure how i feel about it? plus, his legal name is luis, so to be a jr, wouldn't it have to be luis jr? (i always get confused between a jr and a "the 2nd" etc)  i just have to try and have only girls ;)

What are names that FI likes that you hate?  Or vice versa?
one point, many years ago, before we were even engaged, he mentioned the name sebastian...which, i don't like....i don't know why, but, i don't know...it hasn't come up again, so we'll see what happens if we have 2 boys....

We agreed on Noah George for our first boy (George is his dad's name and he passed away 10 years ago) For girls we have a list of names that we like.

What are names that FI likes that you hate?  Or vice versa?
Ummm no I don't think we had any names that were super polarizing but we did have some that one of us didn't love so we took it off our list.

No babies for a few years though....

Have you and FI/DH discussed possible baby names if you're planning on having kids? Yes, both joking and in serious discussions

    What are your favorite names?
I have always loved the name Juliette Hannah. FI has to deal with that one - thankfully, both sides of our family have names we can derive this one from, since FI has a traditional streak, and his family is very big on reusing names in the Jewish tradition. (He is named after his late grandfather, and he and a cousin share the said grandfather's Hebrew name.) FSIL is on my side with Juliette, to boot. We run into problems with the boy's names that I like, though, because my family is stock full of Williams and Edwards and traditional English names like that.

What are names that FI likes that you hate?  Or vice versa?
A bunch of his family names are very old-country, and while they were great 50 years ago, I'm not so fond of them for today's kids. He thinks they are fine. (Emmanuel? ...Really?) I also abhor the idea of IIs and IIIs and Jrs. because my family has SO MANY, including my father (who has a name that is great for a 62 year old man like himself, but is downright horrid for a kid).

At the moment, I'm all for an only child (it has it's downsides, as I well know, but a lot of upsides). At one point, he Freudian slipped "FOUR!" at me. I just glared. No. Freaking. Way. Even if we adopted. I think the most I could handle is 2. I just don't get how to handle sibling issues.

Have you and FI/DH discussed possible baby names if you're planning on having kids? Yes we have.  We've talked about names we both like.  We know we want at least two kids.  I would love three or four and he doesn't mind.  We won't be trying for kidds for at least 3 years after we are married, but neither one of us minds it if happens before the three years.

What are your favorite names? Our first son will definitely be James, it was his grandfather's name who he was extremely close to.  I love the name Nathan, and he likes it too.  For girls we can't really agree, it doesn't help that I seem to always change my mind of names I like.

What are names that FI likes that you hate?  Or vice versa? FI loves Danielle for a girl.  I like the name but don't know if I want to name my child that.   Plus his borhter, my cousin, and a close friend of ours are all Daniel, I feel like its too many with similar names.

Have you and FI/DH discussed possible baby names if you're planning on having kids? Yes, but mostly jokingly

What are your favorite names?  Well for a while I wanted to name all of my kids after presidents (history dork alert!)  For a boy I liked Jackson Lee and Carter Benjamin.  For a girl I liked Kennedie or Madison.  FI shot them all down :(
Currently for a girl I like Morgan and Allison, or more old school names like Margaret, Grace, Colleen or Lena and for a boy I like Brendan, Braden, and Connor

What are names that FI likes that you hate?  Or vice versa? He likes Kevin Tyler. That's my dad's first name so I'm not crazy about that.  Another time he mentioned Shannon and all I could think of was Brenda from 90210 and a girl from my elementary school with greasy hair lol

    We have awhile though!

Now I understand how "Mia" made it to #10 in popularity for 2009!

Have you and FI/DH discussed possible baby names if you're planning on having kids? We discussed it a few years ago (before we were engaged, actually) & revisited it recently...our thoughts have not changed, either! :)

What are your favorite names? I've aways said I would name a boy James 9after my father, now deceased). I used to say it when he was alive, too, and my dad would laugh at me. DH agrees we'd use James & while, if I had my OWN way ;) I'd do James Nicholas (for my dad & his brother...my beloved, late uncle) we'd use "James Richard." Richard is DH's middle name & his father's middle name as well so that'd incorporate both grandfathers, my husband....you egt the idea. Richard isn't my favorite but I can deal with it for a middle name.

If we're fortunate to have one child, that would probably be all (I'm 37). If we had another boy, though, I love Reid (DH's maternal grandmother's maiden name0 so if I could choose, THEN I'd do Reid Nicholas.

A girl would be Mia Jayne (My mother is Mena & "Mia" reminds me of her :) ...DH's mother is Jayne, spelled with the "y" b/c that's a more common Danish spelling/she's Danish.

If I had to choose a 2nd girl's name right now, I like Amelia Eve. DH likes Veronika (again, a Scandinavian spelling); not sure I like it enough to use it.

What are names that FI likes that you hate?  Or vice versa?
I've always loved the name Chloë (complete with the umlaut!) but DH swears I only like it b/c it's one of my best friends' names. Not true. Still, I don't think he's a fan. DH commented one day that he likes "Nora/Norah' but I don't see myself having a Norah. I like boys names, too, like Nathaniel & Tristan but my husband doesn't & I think I'd have to have 8 boys to use ALL the boys names I like....it's just not happening!

What are your favorite names?  we made a deal, i get to name the first girl and he gets to name the first boy. if we have 2 girls or 2 boys then we each get to pick a name. right now i like Natalie Rose or Jessica Rose for girls (these change constantly though). He likes Melanie for a girl. For a boy Brendan Luke and my choice is Kevin Anthony.

What are names that FI likes that you hate?  Or vice versa?
I'm not a big fan of Melanie for some reason. I like Evan for a boy but it reminds FI of some jerk he went to high school with

What are your favorite names? For a girl I like Lily (g-ma's name is lillian) and Alessandra (g-pa's name was alessandro).  We talked about using alessandro for a boy if we don't get two girls.

What are names that FI likes that you hate?  Or vice versa?  I love the name Roman and Paul says it doesn't sound manly enough for a boy!

We actually just discussed names we like last weekend... I always loved Olivia Grace for a girl, but I feel like both those names are becoming really popular as of late. We both also like Annabelle and Natalie as potential first names for girls.

I'm with smw on the boys bible names. My grandfather's name was Stephen, dad was Stephen, my name is Stephanie so I'd like to continue the trend with my son (I'd never name my daughter after myself).

I am surprised to see that Madison has so much staying power after all these years!

Right now I'd guess that there is less than a 50% chance that we'll ever have kids, and the only conversation we've ever had is that I really like my husband's first and middle name (John Patrick) so I wouldn't mind having a Jr., maybe called Jack or JP to avoid confusion.  My husband HATES JP, and is eh on Jack.  That's as far as we've ever gotten.

Any kids would have his last name, which is really to match (long Polish name starting with a weird letter), so a lot of nice names would be out of the question.

We talk about names all of the time.  For girls we both like Paige Lynne.  However, I have a whole list that he is not thrilled with....Reagan, Riley, Morgan, Colleen, Courtney, it keeps going.  We actually recently mentioned Charlotte Eileen...that would name the baby after my dad and mom.

For a boy, we have no clue....I'm a teacher so names keep getting eliminated each year!!

How funny, Olivia Grace, is my secret baby name too. It may change due to popularity but Olivia would be so cute with our last name & Grace is my middle name so I would like to carry that over

Have you and FI/DH discussed possible baby names if you're planning on having kids?  Pretty often but we've learned to keep the names secret as our good friends used our former favorite name. Granted it was as a middle name but it still annoyed me ;)

What are your favorite names? My girl name as above is Olivia Grace.  Other names I like are Amelia, Mia (I guess like others on the board), & Stella.  Boys, I like classic like Alexander or Thomas. He wants a JR which i'm really not sure if I would agree to that unless he was very passionate for it.

What are names that FI likes that you hate?  Or vice versa? None yet except if we had a junior.

Have you and FI/DH discussed possible baby names if you're planning on having kids?
Yes we have (more me then him lol)  He is totally into having kids and I love how great he is with kids. I'm a preschool teacher  and I absolutly love kids. I can't wait to have my own.  I actually talked FI into coming in for career week. He is a police officer, he was a big hit! That was in October and the kids still remember him. lol

    What are your favorite names?
I LOVE Raquel for a girl, He hates it :(  I also like Natalia Rosa, my mothers name is Rosa. In his culture the mothers maiden name is used as the middle name. I told him no way and that I would use my parents name as middle names.
For a boy I love JonPaul Ricardo  ( Ricardo is my dads name)

I know we will have a hard time picking names. He hates all the names I love. I think i'm going to do what my sister did, in the middle of giving birth she told my brother in law that she was not naming her son what he wanted to name him. She screamed " When you push a kid out then you can name it" With that said  she named both her children lol

    1. Yes all the time
    2. We will have a Jr Simeraldo Nicholas (his dad is a Sr and I am a loser and love tradition like that) and for a girl Angela Rose (my two grandmothers names)
3.Nope we only want 2 kids and if I end up with two of the same sex I will be sticking with the Italian names.  Vincenzo, Anthony, Giovanna, Francesca. Im a loser for tradition, like I said.

We haven't really discussed it too much.  I however have my favorite names picked out (at least for the time being).  I hope MH loves them as much as I do.

Girl:  Jocelyn Cora  (Cora is MH's recently deceased grandmother's name, whom he was very close to)

Boy: Andrew Michael (one of my grandfather's name and MH's name) - will call him Drew for short

    Other names I like girls:
Leighla (pronounce Lee-La) - LOVE this name, but our last name begins with a LaM***** so it probably won't ever make the cut sadly
    Fallon
    Hadley
    Kenley
    Morgan
    Coraline

    Other boy names:
    Drew
    Nathan
    Lucas
    Ethan
Calvin Henry (my greatgrandfather's name) - part of me loves it, part of me thinks it wouldn't fit right

I know an Oliver and he's a very dear friend of mine. Great geeky friend!

I think it's funny that one of the most popular boys' names here is FI's name, yet I haven't seen my name pop up, yet. Then again, Alex(ander) wasn't so popular in the early 80s, and Rebecca... well, there should be a poll as to how many Rebeccas you all know!

    Yes we have!

MH would have a kid today but we have agreed to wait, I'm so not ready. For a girl we like Gianna Faith (Faith is my sisters name) or Eilana. For a boy he really wants a Jr.It's not a bad name, Eric, but I would prefer to use his middle name Sean.

We don't really have any names that we don't agree on, they change from time to time.

P.S. My best friends name is Falynn (Fallon) but I love the way she spells it!
