Flower availability???

Do you think Hydrangeas will be readily available for my early May wedding?

My colors are inspired by the blue hydrangea when it's in it's try color state. I love them and so does my Fiance.

I would like them to be the main flower, but if they are too expensive at the time, i might need to re-think how many i use.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure they are in season spring/early summer, so you should be good.  We met with our florist last night and I suggested pink hydrangea for August, but she said it was too late.  But she said we could get it now if we wanted, so I think May is a good time for them.  Hope that helps!

Thanks Noodle, it does help, as that is the only sure thing for my wedding... I would hate having to cut back, we both love the flower and would make so much sense for it to be the main flower in our wedding.

Hydrangeas are funny, because I know they are available in October too. According to wikipedia they are available from early spring to late autumn... so it's weird that August is out? Maybe it has to do with what color? In any case, my friend is having blue hydrangeas at her wedding in early June.

I had blue hydrangea as a theme too, and I used them pretty abundantly at my mid-May wedding.  They were imported, but it wasn't exorbitant.  I was flexible on the other types of blooms used.  (May is too early for hydrangea in Boston--they are much more abundant in June and early July).  You can see pictures of my flowers in my bio:

...your florist should be willing to work with you on this.  Mine certainly were.
We used a variety of hydrangea colors:
    -deep/vibrant blue
    -bright green
    -tri-color blue/white
...different ones went into different arrangements.  Great choice--beautiful flowers and very New England.  :)

Hmm.. yeah I remember seeing tons of the plants for sale at Lowe's in the fall.  It was strange, but maybe it was because I wanted pink?  Not sure.  Oh well!

Check with your florist, they are available year round but in season (plentiful) is towards the end of summer/early autumn.
