Wedding bands

Random question--when are you all going to buy (or start looking at) wedding bands?  I guess it doesn't really matter, just curious.

I know some of you here have already gotten yours.  Most books and things I've read say to get them 2-3 months before the wedding... but that seems so late!  I'm thinking FI and I will go looking early in the New Year, but I wanted to see what the rest of you were planning on doing!

Re: Wedding bands

  • I wasnt planning on getting mine so soon, but I did start looking around November because my e-ring is so odd shaped, I wanted to be able to take my time and find one that fit well.

Went into Zales randomly one day and found a band that fit well and it was on sale for Black Friday so I just bought it.

I say, look around, take your time, and when you find one you love wait for a sale. If you start looking now, and buy around VDay that should be good. I think VDay will be the last big sale before our wedding anyway.

FI on the other hand hasnt gotten his yet. Mens bands can be easier to find because theyre are not too many to choose from.

  • We ordered ours now, because we both needed custom bands (FI is between sizes on rings, and my e-ring is already custom so I needed to go custom with the band to make sure they fit together), but I would think 2-3 months out would be plenty of time if there are no sizing/fit issues that you're worried about.  That said, there are awesome sales on jewelry now (because of the holidays) and then also around Valentine's Day (for obvious reasons) so you may get a better deal around those times.

  • We bought ours and received them already, and it's nice peace of mind knowing that we have one of the most crucial aspects of what we need to get married. (As I say, we have the church, priest and wedding bands, that's basically all that's bare-bones required to get married, everything else is just fluff so to speak).

I never quite understood the 2-3 month recommendation for something that is so important. Our jeweler gave a 6-7 week estimation of my FI's ring to come in, so if we waited until 2 months it would have been nerve-wracking. IMHO, pick and purchase your bands sooner rather than later and when you are ready to!

  • My situation is similar to nessaalwayz. We got my wedding band in September, but I wasn't planning on it. We just went in to take a look, and I saw one that I really liked so we got it. That way it will be all paid for in a couple months and will be one less thing to worry about as the big day approaches. My FI will probably be getting his closer to the wedding, but he's not very picky, and it won't cost as much as mine did.

  • FI doesn't know if he wants my band to have stones in it.  I don't know either - my ERing is an amethyst heart so a straight band might look strange next to it I think.  I don't like diamonds, so I don't really want a band of diamonds.  I don't know when we'll really start looking.  We've poked around a little - but nothing serious.
  • I am just going to get one that matches my e-ring and FI will get a band he likes at the same place he got the ring.  They said to come back a couple months in advance so we will go in May or June.

Down the road I'm sure I'll get something chunkier than can be worn alone but for the time being I figured I should have a matching band and I don't want to spend too much money because we are doing the wedding and a house so it adds up.
  • My story of my wedding bands is a strange one. FI bought a very nice, modest sized 3 stone ring for my engagement ring. He bought it before he had asked my parents permission to ask me to marry him, and they were going to offer him diamonds that my grandmother had given to my mother; they were from the necklace and earrings that were the last gift my grandfather gave to her before he got sick. So, we were going to make that into my wedding band. As we looked at the different settings at the jewelry store, we made the decision that the ring FI bought might work better as the wedding band. And while we were looking at E ring settings, FI found a really nice band for him, and we bought it on the spot. So, we bought them already, but it was kind of strange.
  • My fiance ordered my e-ring and it took 4 months to come in because it was custom. Since it took so long, I plan on getting mine about 5-6 months in advance. I am not getting anything fancy but mine will most likely have to be custom ordered again to match.
  • I bought fiance's band for him when he was going through a tough time at work a few months ago, kind of as a pick me up surprise.
He had seen one he liked so I just bought it

I hadn't been looking for a band for mself because I assumed my family was going to offer me my grandmothers rings. However, no one has said anything-a nd my grandparents estate is kind of a cause of tension right now in the family (to sell or not to sell, who gets what) so my parents don't want to rock the boat and ask for my grandmothers diamonds- unless she offers (she is not really with it, and is in a nursting home). This is really horrible but I keep hinting at bands around my grandmother so that she mentions it. 1. becuse itwould help us save some money and 2. because it would be more meaningful.

But, I can't count on that so I found a band I liked at Zales, but I am going to have my family jeweler custom make a piece that similar (adn less expensive).

But we are waiting to get it until like March- to see if my aunt uncle and parents offer up my grandmothers diamond to me.

  • We got both of our wedding bands from Kay. That is where he got my e-ring so we have just been going back.
  • FI bought mine with my e-ring as a set, so that's already done for me. For him, I'm not sure. I'm hoping in the next couple of months he will at least go look with me. I don't think he really cares...he just doesn't want anything too expensive (which is the theme with him for the entire wedding lol)

  • This has been a tough one because my bands were his grandmother's so they've been "picked" since we got engaged; he's really hard though because he doesn't wear jewelry and wants something different but that still looks like a wedding band. I've bookmarked a bunch on etsy and we'll likely be going white gold or silver for him (it can be resized and he likes the look better than yellow gold- mine wound up being platinum, so we can't afford to match metal.) I'm guessing we'll really start looking hard and then deciding in February/March.
