exchanging rings

We are doing a double ring ceremony... I know my ring is placed on my right index finger, but did you place his ring on his index or ring finger?
Our rabbi said that I don't put it on his index finger, but in flipping through my parents wedding photos over the weekend I saw that my mom did place it on my dad's index finger.
Just want to clarify :-) Thanks a bunch!

His ring goes on his ring finger. At least, that's how my very conservative Rabbi had us do it.

Thanks! That's what we're doing..I was just suprised when I saw my parents pics considering my grandparents were orthodox.

I would put it on his ring finger, but I don't think it would really matter either way.

Our rabbi is having us do the double ring ceremony. He said traditionally the man does not get a ring at the ceremony, but he let us choose what we wanted to do.

Our rabbi told me that I'd be placing the ring on his ring finger (he's Orthodox by rearing but our synagogue is Conservadox).

Traditionally, the groom could not get a ring at all during the ceremony. The theory was that he was giving the ring to acquire the bride. If he got a ring at the same time, the thought was that he hadn't really given up anything of value, he had merely exchanged rings, and thus the marriage was not valid.

Only the most Orthodox of rabbis would adhere to this view today. However, because of it, there is no "traditional" finger on which to put the man's ring--because the tradition is that he just doesn't get one.
