March 2012 Weddings

Welcome bags?

Anyone else doing welcome bags? If so, what are you using for the actual bags? I'd like to use something cute and possibly reusable but can't afford to spend much on them.

Re: Welcome bags?

  • Yep, we're going to do welcome bags too! Something I always appreciated was a bottle (or 2) of water for the morning after--- cheap if you buy them in bulk @ Sam's/ BJ's..... I'm also including a few boxes of Nerds (they're our wedding colors and we're both engineers!)... TODAY I found out that someone at work was giving away pens with laser pointers & mini lights on the back so I grabbed 16ish in case we decided to throw a few in the bags to represent my employer!  Lastly, my mom has already volunteered to make a few of her homemade cookies for each bag!  Sometime in January I might put some more thought into whether or not there are any specific candies or CT-specific/ cheap extras we can add in.... or one of those small travel cases of Ibprofen to help with the hangovers!!

  • Yes we are but I have no clue. I have left that detail up to my father and he has taken full responsibility for it. Lol it's lovely not having it on my check list :)
  • I have a TON of reusable shopping bags that I plan to use.  I ordered some magnets off of VistaPrint (everyone loves magnets, right?), and some pens and note bads.  I'll throw in some cheap candies and a little "first aid kit" (bandades, moist towelettes, etc.) stuff that I can get for cheap somewhere like Wally World.  Maybe a Crossword puzzle I create myself (there are a ton of programs out there).  Maybe a word find... ?

Nothing too fancy.  Very little budget for this.  Most of it I'm getting free on VistaPrint (LOVE THEM) or super cheap some other ways.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • I am doing 75 welcome bags for my destination wedding and spending less than $300 total! Every guest is getting one so it is more like my wedding favor. I am passing them out at our Welcome Dinner the night before the wedding.

Oriental Trading has really cute gift bags for $6/dozen! I am getting most of my stuff from Amazon.com and Walmart when I get there...

    Mine will have the following:
    Gift Bag - $6/dozen = $36
    Vegas Themed Playing Cards - $1/deck = $75
    Individual Shout Wipes - $5/box of 12 = $30
    Individually Wrapped Purell Wipes - $7/box of 100 = $7
    5 stick pack of WinterFresh gum - $15/box of 40 = $30
    Advil 2 pack - $15/50 packs = $30
    Nature Valley Granola Bar - $22/box of 96 bars = $22
    Mini Oreo cookies - $18/box of 40 = $36
    Bottled water - $4/24 pack = $12
    Grand Total for 75 bags = $278

I will also include a wedding brochure of the weekend activities, Top Free things to do in Vegas, important phone numbers like my parents, hotel, cabs and maps of vegas. I might stop by the convention center when I get there to get free little city books to throw in there too.

My goal for the welcome bags was for them to have a little favor (the decks of cards) and some comforts from home while staying in the hotel room (sometimes need a little snack or bottle of water without paying $5 for it in the hotel!)

  • I'm definitely planning on doing some kind of welcome bags. The dollar store has little gift bags that with some tissue paper would totally work. I think they are 2 for $1. I think we'll need to make 10-15. I'm thinking we'll put in:

Arizona Iced Tea (since the wedding is in AZ)
    Bottled water
    Prickly Pear candy
A map of the area with stores, restaurants and walking/running trails
    Gum (I'm stealing that one)
    Advil (stealing that one, too)

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • Awesome ideas!!! The only thing I have so far are visitor booklets for Dallas with ideas and coupons for things to do in the area. I'm excited to steal from you guys to make a list of everything else :)

  • We are doing them most likely for our destination wedding in NOLA. I want to put some theme items in there and then maps and other things that have to do with NOLA.
