It's been a REALLY long time since I have haha.
Honestly, I wouldn't be in a union if I had the option as a public teacher. But I'd stand up for what I believe in even if it's not what the union believes and it costs me in one way or another.

Not in Virginia. It's a teachers choice but it isn't a strong union that does salaries and benefits and things like that.

I think you might be. I know at my old job they were forced to join the union, and my other friend who worked at a supermarket got fired because he didn't join. BS if you ask me.

oh, the forced union thing isn't just teachers either. State employees (like my first job on campus) and really any employer that's unionized. You can 'opt out' and pay 'fair share wages' and forfeit voting rights, though. For me I did it based on principle, but it lowered my dues only from $17/paycheck to $14 (I was making about $14/hr for comparison.)
That's why I hate unions. It's not optional here.
