Wedding Invitations & Paper

Printing Invites / Addressing Invites

Two questions:

1.)  I'm printing my invties at a local printer.  Is 80# cardstock fine to use for invitations?  They gave me options and I'm okay with 80#,  but have people tried it and just didnt like the final product?  Should I spend the extra money on an even thicker piece?

2.)  When addressing invites,  do I have to use their "full"  first name if they've gone by a shorter name all their life?  Example:  Shelly's first name is technically Michelle,  but always goes by Shelly.  David has NEVER gone by David,  just Dave.

Re: Printing Invites / Addressing Invites

  • 1. Can you ask your local printer for a sample of the paper.  Just use your own judgment regarding how they feel.  If you like them, that's what matters.

    2. I put full names if I knew it.  My dad's cousin's husband goes by Al, but his first name is John.  I put Mr & Mrs John Doe.  I also did that for any other abbreviated names.
  • I second that you an ask for a sample, but I think 80 will be fine. In my opinion I would use the full name, because a wedding is more of a formal event. I go by Katy, and when I receive Katherine on something such as a wedding invitation it would feel official and formal.
** I don't believe that old cliche that good things come to those who wait. I think good things come to those who want something so bad they can't sit still **
  • Ditto a sample and then use your judgement.

And I would do fulll names. Unless of course, you know for a fact your guest hates to be addressed by their full name.
