Self Employed Ladies!!!

I've figured a way to stay home and still work.
Start my own business.
But I am super nervous. I have the backing of my DH but I am curious.

I know what I want to do. I know what I need to do to get started but I have butterflies.

Were you nervous when you first decided to start your own business?
Any word of advice would be helpful.

TIA

I can't help you out, but I was just curious...what kind of business are you looking to start?

I want to start my own business too. But since I work a full time job, it's very hard to just leave my benefits and pay to follow my dreams.. LOL I say, you have nothing to lose Lisa.. this is the best time to do while you are at home with Brooklyn!

Brandi, those are my sentiments exactly.
I've been dragging my foot for a year and need to get started.

I need to do something for the next year or two while I'm home.

I'm self-employeed. Although i didn't seek to start my job, it sort of found me. FI was in a near fatal car accident. When he came home from hospital the insurance company offered the position of homecare giver to me. I went to school for social work so it's a similar field, with the minimal case management that i do. I have just my FI as my client, but have considered looking into other clients. I get paid to work 12hrs/day, 7days/week.
i guess some advice i have would be to document EVERYTHING, and claim WHATEVER you can on taxes, therefore keeping receipts, documents, etc. I would also strongly suggest you invest in a fax/copy/scanner/printer. i JUST recently (maybe 6 mons ago) bought mine, and REALLY wish i'd gotten it 3 years ago!! it makes billing and documentation SO much easier! i got one at Walmart for $99.
wish i could help better, but i didn't 'start from scratch' with my business, it came to me.
i guess the only other thing would be, owning a home business means you're ALWAYS home. which im sure you know about, seeing how you have a little one.. but it gets to be stressful working from home and not being able to 'go into an office'. but there's also perks to that too.
    Good Luck with your business!!

Thank you Lisa, he is recovering everyday. We are VERY blessed to have him still with us. He much better then the initial accident, but still cannot work. althought sometimes thats a good thing with our BUSY schedules.. seriously.. it'd odd lol we are always on the go!
If i can help anymore let me know. Because my 'business' is a little different then most home businesses im not sure i'd be of much assistance... i guess i'd just make sure you have an area put aside for your business. i dont have one (our house is pretty small) so i have piles everywhere- although i know where things are, FI does not lol- guess i'm thankful he doesnt clean either LOL!

Oh also- here's something that really helps me get through money issues.... when i'm debating on doing a home project, etc i always remind myself "this will be a tax write off" ... bc pretty much any thing you do to your home will count as a write off bc you have a home business. :)

    Lisa -

I wasn't self- employed when I worked from home, but I may as well have been. It took over my living room. Was pretty hard on my son as well, because even though I was home, I couldn't be the "play at home" mommy anymore.  The nice thing though, was that somedays, the paperwork could wait until midnight, one or two am, and then I could play during the day, but it made sleeping a hassle. I personally did not do well with it, emotionally, running the business out of my living room and can't begin to tell you the weight off of my shoulders now that it is not there. But if you can do it, just be prepared. I wasn't prepared for home to not feel like "home" anymore.  PM me if you want, and I will get into more details you may be interested ( 1099, etc).
