Honeymoon Discussions

Hmmm would I be missing out?!

So just want opinions and votes..

My FI and I had orginally planned to go to Vegas for our honeymoon especially since that's both of our scenery. But we are still undecided on what we want to do. So many neat things to see/visit/do in Vegas, but at the same time also on a Carnival Cruise. Our wedding is at the end of June next year so the weather will be perfect for either.

Opinions!!!

Re: Hmmm would I be missing out?!

  • I picked vegas just because I'm not big into cruising.  I think if you're looking for a party, vegas is more your scene than a cruise ship.  The activities on the cruise dh and I went on were really lame.  They were geared towards older folks or kids.
  • We are going to Vegas for ours, and I thought we were the only ones that would honeymoon there! Its definitely more us, and we got a great deal. Neither of us has been in ten years, so we're really excited!

So, if its more your style.....go for it!
  • I love Vegas, but I have been there in June and it's not pleasant weather. Every single day topped out at around 110º. No joke. It was almost suffocating to be outside and not even pleasant to sit by the pool. I suppose if you planned on casino hopping or going to shows/shopping and staying in the A/C, it'd be fine. But it was definitely not 80º weather like it might be in other areas. And this was mid-June, so late June/early July would be even worse.

Having said that, I love Vegas and would prefer that over a cruise.

  • june in vegas equals deathly hot. Like an oven hot.
  • Both are excellent choices!  I went to Vegas in July 2005 and it was hot!  We chose to go on an Eastern Caribbean Cruise for honeymoon.  My FI likes to gamble a lot (He knows it) and therefore Vegas doesn't work for us but I am sure whatever you choose, you will have a good time  :-)

  • Vegas.  I've been on Carnival several times now, not a fan.  After going on Royal Caribbean last week you'd have to show me a REALLY good deal on Carnival to get me on another one.  Are you bound to Carnival?  I know the Enchatment of the Seas leaves from Baltimore and offers 5, 7, and 8 day cruises.  I'd pick that over Vegas!

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • Ditto pp's we've been to Vegas in May and in late June and both times it was VERY hot. So hot that unless you're in the pool it's unbearable. I felt very sick from the heat when we were there in late June a few years ago. I stayed hydrated and was either in the AC or in the pool and my body still hated me for it.

I would definitely pick a cruise over Vegas for that time of year, but are you willing to look into other cruiselines or is Carnival the only way to go. We enjoyed cruises on Carnival, but for your HM I would pick Celebrity or Princess.
  • PP's are right, Vegas will be very hot in June (guaranteed 100+ daily), so if you are prepared to deal with the heat, then Vegas is a great place (and rooms tend to be a little cheaper in the summer too since most people don't travel there when it's that hot).

If you are wanting to spend a lot of time outside though, definitely go for the cruise.

  • i chose cruise because i'm not a fan of vegas so i'd really choose anything over that.

  • vegas!!  even with the super oppressive heat, I'd pick Vegas over a cruise any time of year.

  • Thanks for ALL the advice and opinions everyone!! I appreciate it a bunch!!!! Seems like Vegas is the way to go except for the heat, I planned on staying inside most of the day and actually going out at night ( I heard it's alot prettier with all the lights and etc) Smile
  • I voted Vegas ... I love Vegas and don't think I'm a cruise person. But yes, Vegas will be hot. I already live in the desert, so the heat wouldn't phase me. So unless you're used to/love heat, be careful. I was in Vegas a few years ago in August with a girlfriend from the east coast whose eyes had a horrible reaction to the dry weather and heat and she spent most of the trip with super puffy and sore eyes.

I happen to think June is a great time for Vegas, but if you're worried about the heat at all, maybe delay your honeymoon until late September.

  • We visit Vegas at all times of the year and, yes, it's hot, but it's not *that* bad.  I wouldn't let that keep you away if it's what you really want to do!  And like you said, everything is indoors until nighttime anyway!  And yes, at night it's not hot and nice to be out in.  Just remember to bring sweaters.  The first time I went to Vegas (early September) I didn't bring a sweater because I didn't think I'd need it.  But when you go from being outdoors into a building that is blasting their AC you get chilly.  I actually bought a sweater on that trip just to carry with me so I could put it on when I moved indoors!
