Mom??

What do you call your FMIL when you're talking to her? Mom, Her first name, or Mrs. Last name?  I'm not really close with FMIL so at this point I don't really call her anything.

Re: Mom??

  • I call her by her first name. I think she's said before I can call her Mom, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with that, even though we do get along well enough. I just think it would bother or hurt my mom if I did.

  • Her first name, fi calls my dad dad its weird to me lol
  • I think I called my FMIL "Mrs. Lastname" once and she yelled at me, LOL. It's strictly first names with both her and my FFIL. I have good relationships with FI's parents, but I think we'd all be weirded out if I started calling them mom and dad.

  • I voted other because I go back and forth between her first name and mom.

  • I call her by her first name because I asked her "what should I call you" and that's what she said.  This was right after I started dating FI so of course I didn't call her Mom then; and by now I think it would be weird to switch.

Sometimes I call them "mom" or "dad" when I'm joking around.

  • IDK why but I call her "Lindapop" for years lol. Idk where it came from, probably because she annoys me to no end.

  • She was introduced to me as "Momma P" so that's what I call her.  I wouldn't feel comfortable calling anyone but my mom "mom" so I think it's a great compromise.

  • Just her 1st name.  My FI is youngest of 4 siblings and the last to get married so all the other in-laws called her by her 1st name and I just go with it.  Plus FI's 2 older brothers have a different dad from him so they call my FFIL by his 1st name not "dad" so I think it always stuck with just using 1st names.

  • Mother if I really want her attention haha. I've always called her motherbear. Hehe
  • I was raised to call anyone older then me by Mrs (or Ms.) or Mr. XYZ until I was told to do otherwise. FI's mom told me that I could call her by her frist name from the day that I met her, so that's what I call her.

I don't really ever see myself calling her "mom." My SIL calls my dad "dad" but it kind of weirds me out.

  • It's weird to me to call someone besides my own mother "mom". So I call her by her first name. Mrs. lastname didn't seem right either.

  • First name... she lives 500 miles away so it's hard to get "close"  FI calls my parents mom and dad, but they are 12 miles away... I feel like that makes a difference.

  • I have no idea what to call my FMIL so I've just avoided calling her anything so far, same with FFIL haha. I don't see her very often, so it hasn't been obvious yet (I don't think!), I just make sure I look directly at her if I start talking to her! Or I say something to FI and get him to translate for me, then I get away with just saying "Tell your mom..".
  • I call FMIL by her first name, it used to be Mrs XYZ but that was way in the beginning, then her and FI's dad separated so to call her Mrs XYZ even though its still her last name was funny to me and as we got closer i just started calling her by her first name, or she said I could, i dont remember.
I call FI's dad, by his nickname, Pepe, everyone does...i think the only people who call him Mr XYZ are judges and any police officer that may pull him over...
FI calls my dad "Dom" short for Dominick and calls my mom "Mama" (said with an italian accent lol) they are super close, she would prob take him over me anyday=( jk
  • I call FI's parents by their first names because that's what they always told me to call them. not Mr. and Mrs ___. I noticed recently, they've been writing "Love, Mom and Dad" I don't know if I'll ever get used to calling them that.

  • I actually call my mother-in-law Milly... As in M.I.L. -ly

Then my F.I.L. is Filly, and S.I.L. is Silly. It started as a joke but just kinda stuck :)

  • I call my FMIL by her first name when I am talking about her. I dont really call FILs anything, as I am either talking to them and therefore dont need to address them or I make FI do it. My parents call their ILs mom and dad and that's normal to me but I cant picture calling my inlaws "mom and dad".

  • I call my FMIL by her first name, but we also tell each other "I love you" every time we see each other.

  • I'm avoiding calling her anything at the moment, because (by her preference) I called her Mrs. Last Name, but since we got engaged, she started signing things "Mom Last Name". I assume that she wants me to call her "Mom" but I am not used to that yet...

My fiance got it easy - my parents have explicitely asked them to call them by their first name. ;)
  • I used to call my FMIL by her first name, but my FI and I have been together nearly 7 years so we have gotten pretty close. I go back and forth now, but have taken to calling her Mom more often now that we are finally getting married.

  • I'm like a few others and have no idea what to call my FMIL.. so like others have said I just avoid calling her anything and if I'm trying to get her attention I'll say something like  uhhhhhhh can you help me with this or something like that, not sure if she's noticed or not.  I just feel odd calling her by her first name and odd calling her Mrs _las name.  FI's parents are divorced, his stepdad I called by his first name, but he passed recently.  His dad and step mom I call by their first names but they're a lot less formal and I just feel more comfortable calling them by their first names.

  • I call my FIL's by their first names when speaking to them. I'll use mom and dad if I'm talking to FI. Sometimes I call FMIL by her nickname Mrs. Nice mom (play on her last name Nystrom).
