Addressing Envelopes

I saw on a previous post that many of you are not using inner envelopes.  For those of you that just did outer envelopes how did you let them know they have a plus one if it isn't a case where I know who it will be? Did you do this?

Mr. John Smith and Guest

Will that look funny on the outer envelope?

Also, for kids does this look ok and not too much on the front?

Re: Addressing Envelopes

  • I will be doing "Mr. John Smith & Guest"... I don't have many kids that are invited but I am thinking of just doing "The Smith Family"
  • That is what we did. If people add a guest when they weren't allowed then I will have to make that awkward phone call.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I am not using inner envelopes.
I addressed the outer envelope to the person who it is going to and their guest.
    So,
    Jane Doe and Joe Dirt
    1234 lala street
    wonderful, world
    35976

You get the point. I only had to do that for one. Otherwise, it is already written on their RSVP Cards.
    For Families, I said
    The Doe Family
    1234 anywhere street
    wonderful, world
    34562

  • Ooh, good question, I've totally been wondering the same thing since I'm not doing inner envelopes so I'll be glad to see some feedback on this one.  Maybe Mr. and Mrs. John Smith and Family.

I have no idea but listing children's name for me would be a lot since I have a couple people in my family with 4 or more children.

I thought about doing this as well, but I would rather specify exactly who is invited to try to avoid as many of the awkward phone calls that Ashley is talking about as possible.<div>

Luckily for me I have only have 3 "Kids" (they are between 12-16) so there really won't be any confusion for us.
  • We are just doing outer envelopes, too. The only difference from PP is that I'm leaving off the Mr./Mrs. - so rather than Mr. John Doe & Guest it will just be John Doe & Guest because for some reason I think the formality of Mr. sounds weird with Guest on the same line.

We will just be putting "The Smith Family" for people who have children - but luckily for us, the only people who have children are members of our family or very close friends so the awkward phonecalls hopefully wouldn't be an issue
  • Are you on the Facebook page?  I'll post some pictures of mine, but I don't want to do it here since this is public.  I'll post them to the FB page and delete them in a couple hours.

That's what I've been doing. If they have kids with guests (because NO ONE in my family follows the "rule" about people being over 18 in the same house getting a different invitation and I think it's wasteful), I've been doing this:

    Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
    Mary and Guest Name
    Jane and Guest Name
    Address
    State Zip
  • I am doing

    Mr. John Smith and Guest

or Mr. & Mrs. John Smith and Family (if they have kids)
  • I just posted three examples from my envelopes on the Facebook page.

  • Amber, I did it pretty much how you listed and I did end up putting "and Guest" on a handful.  Remind me later and I can show you some if you want
    image
  • I just did their first and last names. The people that have guests, I know their names so no invites say and guest

I really like this idea! My circle of friends doesn't follow this "rule" either.
