Inexpensive DJs?

Okay, I know I know. You get what you pay for. However, anyone know of any inexpensive DJs around town that aren't corny? The type of person that has equipment and knows how to use it, but is more likely to stick to a playlist that wow the crowd with antics?

My fiance is a huge music fan and wants to plan the music from start to finish. We thought about doing the DIY music route, but don't want our guests futzing with sound equipment all night and won't have time to set it up ourselves anyways. I've gotten recommendations from friends for DJs they really liked at their weddings, but they're all in the 2k range. I'm hoping to not have that high of a bill for music, particularly since my fiance wants to control the playlist anyway and since our initial thought was having a budget wedding and we've failed on all accounts so far except photography and invitations.

So, any suggestions?

I suggest Entertainment Tonite.  The guy, Tracy, gives a great deal and is so normal and down to earth.  We hired him after meeting with about four other DJs.

Partytime Productions was our second choice.  They're a bit more pricey depending on what you want.  The only reason we decided against them was because the owner was trying to snake us away from one of his DJs (within the company) that we originally met with and wanted to have at our wedding.  The owner was just sneaky and extremely cheesey (he kept saying that our wedding would be "chillax" to my FI... what the hell?!)- there was no way we'd have him personally do our wedding.

Pittsburgh Vibes was nice, too, but they just kept insisting we had a photo booth at our reception because it was free/included in the package- they just didn't understand that we didn't care and did not want it.

Those were definitely top three for us though.  I have prices on them and a few other DJs if you want!  Just send me a message :)

What price range are you looking to stay in?

We are (I think) going with Andy Hutelmyer, he's under $1K and seems pretty good. Andy Booth is really good and I have also heard that the guy that works with him (JJ?), is good as well.

Andy Booth is at 1000 or just over, I think.

My DJ (who I haven't used yet) is under 1000, and has great reviews.  Ash used him for her wedding, and I got a glowing rec from a friend who got married in December.  PM me if you want his info!

Oh, and Jodi Colella from the recommended list is at $950.

We're using Andy Booth - he is priced at 1250. He is not corny at all, actually incredibly down to earth and really cool. When FI and I met with him we ended up talking over coffee for well over an hour about music and lots of stuff in addition to DJ info. Other DJs we met with were really overbearing and I am a laid back person so I know that wouldn't work for me. I recommend meeting with Andy for sure.

I highly recommend DJ Rockin John. Tex did our wedding and did a fabulous job. He was entertaining, without being corny and our guests raved about him. They range between $600 - $900, depending on what you need.
