Honeymoon Debate

Okay so I cannot decide what to do so I'm looking for your opinions ladies :)

Either doing an overwater bungalow in the south pacific that doesn't include more than maybe breakfast. OR an all-inclusive resort in the caribbean.

I've ALWAYS wanted to go to the south pacific but I know it is expensive and you don't get as much for the money but I've heard it is way worth it in terms of scenery/experience.

I just feel drawn to it opposed to the caribbean. I feel like I'm just picking a random place for the price when it comes to that.

What do you ladies think? I am on a budget but I would consider this a splurge item, possibly the only one :)

It sounds to me like if you went with the Caribbean, you would be disappointed in the end.  If you have the funds for a splurge and can maybe cut back elsewhere, it sounds like it'd be an AMAZING experience.  You only get one honeymoon after all!

Go for the splurge.  If you can swing it I would treat yourselves to that experience.  Good lucking choosing!

Thanks guys!! Thats what I keep telling FI too. This is YOUR honeymoon too babe and you've worked hard for it and you should enjoy it. We'll only get one honeymoon unless we do like a little anniversary thing down the road and I DOUBT we'd splurge as much then.

As an older person, I always say do now what you are pretty sure you won't do later. Trust me, when the bills, and the kids, and the mortgage and car payments are surrounding you, you will have the memories of a lifetime of your honeymoon. If it's something you really want, then go for it.

Don't forget, you will get lots of moolah at your reception. I know it sounds crass, it's something to consider.

Not sure if it's the south Pacific or over-water-bungalows that is drawing you more, but a few weeks ago I was looking at this site in Bermuda:

    http://www.9beaches.com/

I just checked, and the weather in October is 70's at night, 80's during the day. Just thought I'd pass that along, would be cheaper than S Pacific.

Hey! We are going to the south pacific for our honeymoon.. There are some ways you can save (i.e. don't bother with bora bora since the scenery is the same elsewhere, it's overrun by tourists & extremely overpriced anyway).

I voted South Pacific. If you can swing it by cutting back elsewhere I would do it. Either way you're going to spend a good sum of money, and it sounds like you're really excited for the S.Pacific.

We had a similar debate between Ireland and an all-inclusive in Mexico and we realized that for a little bit more we could do our dream honeymoon so it made more sense to go all out and enjoy it.

Sue's right - you will get some cash from the wedding too so you can plan all your meals, etc. with your budget and use some of that 'extra' money for spending or maybe go to a really fancy restaurant one night.

I voted South Pacific.  Its your honeymoon so you need to splurge a bit.  FI and I debated between Hawaii and an all-inclusive.  We ultimately decided on Hawaii -- even though it requires us to spend more money and use more vacation time -- if we don't do it now, when will we do it?  His parents just went to Hawaii for the first time this winter and we don't want to wait 30 years to do it!

Think about what you want to do on your honeymoon. Relax and lay on a beach or doing activities and sightseeing? Depending on what you and your FI want to do use that as your sole deciding factor. There is more to do in the Caribbean than in places In the S. Pacific. Thats what we did too. For us we debated going to Fiji. But when we realized it was basically us paying thousands per person to lay on a beach and only be able to do watersports with no sightseeing we realized Hawaii had alot more to offer us. Now for roughly the same amount we are going to be able to take a lmuch onger honeymoon, stay on 2 different islands, and do a million different activities.

Yeah I agree with you ladies. btw, Hawaii is BEAUTIFUL! My grandma spoiled me rotten for my 16th birthday and took me on a 7-day cruise there! I'd love to go again but since I live in L.A it is easier to go there in the future since it is only a couple of hours away by air.

I do want to relax more than sight see I think because my retail work schedule is hectic and I want to just be able to enjoy good food, swimming, tanning, drinking and snorkeling/scuba diving/sailing etc.

I'll look into the Bermuda thing!

Blackberry, what are ways you saved and where are you guys going opposed to Bora Bora?
