fair market value

Well, we are selling our wii. All of our stuff is in great condition. I have added up the used value of everything we have based on what it is selling for on amazon (and the person buying it even said she expected us to), and it comes to just shy of 700$

That said, what would you charge this person for everything (wii, rockband, 2 controllers and nunchucks, 2 classic controllers, 10 games).

Re: fair market value

  • I said 575-600 because I want a deal so I try to go a little lower then the full price. I am a bargainer though and people have called me cheap before so don't pay attention to me. lol.

I was very tempted to choose the middle option from the standpoint of someone who would be a potential seller.

Here's why I ended up choosing the  $4-500 range:

Basically, the economy sucks. Sure some people have more than others, but those who do generally would most likely prefer to get something new instead of used. You could probably sell the items for the slighltly higher price but I'm just assuming you would want to sell the items failrly quickly (if I'm wrong, correct me). Just judging by the housing market and even the stories I've heard on the news about the 'back to school' sales not doing good, I'd say going slightly lower than the cometion would increae the interest in what you have to offer.

Even though it's unrelated, I watch a lot of those house flipping shows and it seems like those that mark up the price of their home competitively, but lower than the rest seem to sell faster.

It's a bit of a different situation, but I think it's a good marker for what might be the best way to sell things in a bad market.

  • I have nothing to add about wiis, but I just wanted to say that when I saw that Mad Men cover photo the other day, I thought to myself "I betcha this is going to be Nebbs next sig!"  :)

    True.
  • If you already have a potential buyer you can start with the higher a figure and then negotiate.

  • I have a different approach.... are you selling it on Craigslist or something? If so, I'd write out how much you want for everything individually... then say something like "total $700, but if you take all of it it's only $650" or something.
  • Shoot high, then you have room to negotiate...

  • I said 4-500 only b/c I sold my wii last year with the same stuff and the wii fit and only got 500 for it on ebay. Then I missed it and bought almost everything back this year.
  • Nebb - totally unrelated, but YGPM.

I'm guessing middle, though. But IDK.

    It's Christina Hendricks.

I'd do middle. I mean, if they want everything they can probably go buy everything individually, but usually buying things together = discount. Probably $600-$650. Unless the buyer you have lined up really wants to pay that much. Ask her if $700 is okay and if not tell her you'll go down to $625 or something. (After she says yes or no, of course.)

  • I think it's worth shooting for $700. If it doesn't sell after a certain amount of time you can always drop it down right? You might as well start high and see if someone bites.
  • East changed both her avatar and sig and threw me off and that's not ok.

Nebbalicious, are you offering the option to buy things separately?  I would.  I think you'd get more money from them that way.  Like someone else said, I'd price things separately, and knock a bit off the total for someone buying everything.  But I don't know how much because I suck.

So basically, I'm completely non helpful, as usual.
