shower gift openeing....cards?-EDIT I was unclear!

My shower isn't until next Sunday, but I've been thinking about it and I'm wondering, if I get cards from people, will I be opening those as well as the physical gifts? Or would I open those after the shower, on my own time...?

Sorry if I was unclear...I know I have to open the card thats attached to a gift so that I know who its from..I meant if I get cards by themselves, not attached to any package/bag....if someone gives cash/gc/or nothing at all but the card, do I open these too?

  • At my shower I opened the cards after the presents and went around to thank everyone for the gifts.  I wouldn't annouce them, unless maybe it's a gift card inside.  But I think you should still open them and acknowledge the gift while opening the others.

  • I opened everything. Everyone wanted to know who the gifts were from and I had to open the card to find out. PLus my MOH was keeping a list of who got me what for my thank you cards.

  • I would open the card. I love seeing all the different cards people get.

  • people had to keep reminding me to open the card prior to the gift. it also helped my bridesmaids keep track of who gifted what for my thank you cards later :)

  • WOAHH wait a second I don't think I was clear enough!!!

I know I need to open cards that are attached to gifts.

My question was more about the cards that people give me without an actual package....like if they end up giving cash/gc/or nothing at all besides a card, do I open them after all the gifts?

  • I was actually wondering this myself. My shower is tomorrow and my assumption is yes I open and read the cards on all gifts and the cards that are gifts as well... but we have a card box so do I open up the card box then or what?

FI says just don't take the card box and be done with it... that way I'll open all cards/gifts at the same time.

  • OH gotcha. Yes open those because those are the gift from people. Instead of bringing you a package there maybe a gift card or cash. If you don't open it then they may think you forgot it. Basically open everything!

  • I would open them, that's what I've seen at the showers I've been to. Plus I think people at showers are nosy and want to know what you got. If it's a gift card, I would tell people it's a gift card to wherever and if it's money just thank the person.

  • I still stand by my original post (I was assuming this was what you meant)- open them, but don't necessarily announce what's inside unless it's a gift card or something.  I just did it quietly at the end of all the presents.

<div>In response to this- I assumed that the card box was just for the wedding reception- I didn't bring mine to the shower.  I would think you'd open them now so you can send thank-yous now... if I sent a card w/money or a gift card and didn't receive a thank you for 2 months, I would be concerned that you didn't receive it or something happened to it.</div>

  • Yes, open it all!  If someone got your cash or a GC, I am sure they would want it acknowledged and announced  (not the amount) so that people wouldn't assume that they didn't get you a gift.
