Snarky Brides

Most Hated Posts

Lurking from The Bump. Just wondering what type of posts you guys get over here that never go over well, or just annoy the regulars? This post is pretty pointless, but I'm bored and my daughter doesn't look like she has any plans of going to bed anytime soon.

I think the most annoying thing are the repeats. There about two posts a week asking if brides can kick out/demote bridesmaids, ask for cash instead of gifts, revoke invites if they sent out STDs, dictate what their mother and future mother-in-law wears, if it's okay to have uneven sides for wedding parties...the list goes on and on and on. I wish people would just do a little lurking and research instead of just posting something at the drop of a hat.

  • I agree. I also get a little peeved when people get angry when you mention something that's against the grain of the regulars. I've long since been out of high school, and never really followed cliche' rules when I was there, so I don't usually fare well with following the grain. I can't explain but I've encountered it on a few boards around here. Also... it's probably just me but I don't get a lot of acronyms used on the boards with a lot of regulars. Maybe I'm just not BB saavy though! Hope your daughter goes to bed soon! ;)

I'm guilty of using too many acronyms, but TB has a board glossary to the bottom left, not sure if you guys have that. I get caught up on your STD acronym every time.

So if I wrote a post saying, "I have a very unique sticky situation: my FI and I are paying for our wedding ourselves...is it okay if we ask for cash in lieu of gifts so that we can pay the caterer?" it woul not go over well? <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />

  • Idiots who make threads just to tell us how mean we are.

One of my personal annoyances is when people make threads asking if it's okay to do a HM registry and they always use the excuse of "we already have everything we need". I actually don't mind HM registries. I just think it would be so refreshing for someone to be honest as just say "we want to do a HM registry because we don't want to pay for it and would rather have it than house stuff".

  • I like to turn them into random threads about goats or evil babies.

  • Yep, you each covered it.   Repetitive, unique, sticky situation posts.

  • Trolls that come out of the woodwork just to insult people. Usually doesn't go oever too well.

  • I personally get annoyed by the posts by people who are upset that someone else (cousin, friend, etc.) planned their wedding within a month or less of their wedding day. They always say they are trying to steal the spotlight or something stupid like that.

And worse that than...posts about one of their bridesmaids getting pregnant and all the attention on the wedding day will be on the pregnant woman and not the bride.

Yeah, I hate both of those.

  • I actually get most annoyed not by specific posts, but of posters who spout party lines like they're trying to be elected the next president of Etiquette Rules or something.

And the people who chastise us and tell us to be nicer.  Especially on the SNARKY BRIDES board.

And the HCG posts on GIS.  Or the people asking for motivation.  Oh, here, I'll wrap it right up and send it down the chimney with Santa.

  • I'm with J&K about the GIS board. I've pretty much abandoned all hope over there. I might pop in and offer some running advice, but that's about it.

What really grates on my nerves is when newer posters don't get the validation they want and then they flip the crazy switch and start personally attacking the regs on the board (making fun of their appearance, etc). Because, yeah, that's a great way to make friends. NOT.

Posted by dragonwagon[/QUOTE] I hate this too! It's such a bitchy "mean girls meets adulthood" type of thing to say.... when my guy and I started talking about getting hitched earlier this year, we considered getting married this past August. I had found out after our initial discussion that one of my bridesmaids would be pregnant (and basically due around the time we were looking to get hitched) and I wasn't worried about the attention being on her... I was worried about her going into labor during the wedding! I would NEVER ask her to step down... to think that people would rather lose a close friend than have her baby bump take "top billing" (in their psychotic mind).

Oh,I also dislike people who say on these many boards that they understand all the proper rules of wedding etiquette but their answers don't match up with the Knot's "Ask Carley: Q&A" section on this website. I was tempted to paste an answer that I found on there that conflicted with a self-declared etiquette expert but I realized that I had better things to do (brush my hair, take the garbage out, etc.)

I agree. It's bad enough when you're 'friends' with someone on FB and they send out a mass request asking for you to vote for them for their baby in world's cutest baby  or best engaement story contest. Guess what genius, everyone thinks they have the cutest baby or has the best, most romantic engagement story and it's usually the people asking for votes who have the most boring story (and I won't touch the case with the 'cutest' baby people).

Actually, a LOT of the Knot's advice conflicts completely with proper etiquette.  "Ask Carley" is NOT a substitute for an etiquette book, and the person in question was probably actually right.

I'm not "consulting" either the etiquette board's self-proclaimed experts or the Ask Carley Q&A [I find strength in numbers just asking my friends what they've done] but I do find it humorous when someone on there swears by their word when other places, like Ask Carley, says it doesn't even matter. As the saying goes, no need to get your panties in a knot! ;)

MisstoMrs, not to change the subject, but how was it jumping off the Brooklyn bridge?
Or should I ask your friends who did it first?
  • BOOM, roasted.

Seriously, while your friends can be a great gauge as to what's acceptable in your social circle, unless all your guests are in the same social circle, you can still end up pissing people off.  Plus, your friends will lie to you to avoid hurting your feelings or feeling the wrath of a scorned bride.  Internet strangers won't.

I won't even lie to Meg to avoid hurting her feelings.
