Greece Honeymoon prices?

My fiance and I are just beginning to look for honeymoon destinations.  We are currently throwing around the idea of the Greek Islands. For a 10-14 day honeymoon, does anyone have any idea of a rough price range for that peak time/season, including airfare?  Has anyone been there (or know of a couple who ventured there for a honeymoon??)  If you don't mind posting, how much was your trip?  Thanks!!

Re: Greece Honeymoon prices?

  • Ive been twice, the Greek Isles are my favorite.  Check out
http://www.hellenicholidays.com/ I found the owner right on and knowledgeable.  You would be looking at 8-10K if you do peak season the right way- Santorini, Mykonos, and Crete and Athens....  I went in May/June and it was lovely and off-peak, but the second time I went in August which is peak, it was very crowded as Europeans  esp. Italians and Greeks vacation then.
  • We were there in August (not for a honeymoon) for I think 11 or 12 days.  We didn't always stay in accommodations that were as nice as they would have been for a honeymoon, although about half of them were, and we probably spent around 6k total.  (Also took public transportation everwhere possible, bought the cheapest ferry tickets, etc.)

We were in Vouliagmeni/Glyfada with day trips to the Peloponnesian Peninsula, then traveled around the Middle East for almost a month (not included in price estimate!), then re-entered Greece by way of Turkey and stopped in Samos, Mykonos, and Santorini before ending the trip with a couple of night in Athens.

We are staying in two 5 star hotels and staying a week (Athens, Santorini) we went through Hellenic also and Petros is easy to work with. I think ours is costing around $7k (we are going in mid September).

  • I hate to sound like the Greece police, as I posted this info in another thread a while back, but....
For those of you who aren't economists, following the euro zone economy on a day to day basis (i.e. are not big nerds like me), just be careful in that there have been a lot of protests and strikes in Greece about the government cut-backs. This means that on some days, ports may be closed and the main historical sites may be closed. I don't know how long they're going to go on for (six months? two years?) but I know that I would be pretty upset if I had to miss big pieces of my honeymoon because the ferries weren't operating for a couple of days. Just something to keep in mind.
