Vow renewal option at the ceremony

I thought of this idea while brushing my teeth a while ago.  What does everyone think about having a time in the ceremony where it would be an option for all married couples to renew their vows? Just an idea, want to know what others think!?

Re: Vow renewal option at the ceremony

  • I think it's weird. If people want to renew their vows, they will set up their own event to do it and invite their own friends - not have their renewal be second to your wedding and with your guests
  • Ha!  Ok! Thanks for being honest!! That's what I'm looking for!
  • happy to help! :)
  • I think it could be cool if done in the right way.  Instead of calling it a vow renewal, call it something different, and maybe just have a time for all married couples to think of the vows they have made to one another, or something like that.  I like the concept, but do agree that a vow renewal could be a little weird.  :-)  Best of luck!

Oh!  And I love those ideas that come at the most random of times!  :-)

  • Weird.  My DH and I have been very happily married for almost 32 years.  We decided early on that the vows we made the first time were the vows we made for a lifetime.  We don't need to renew them because they don't have an expiration date.  (Well, okay, until death).

I would be unhappy to be in a position where people were asked to renew their vows, and be put on the spot~feeling awkward if every other couple stood up but we didn't, but also feeling awkward if we did something that we don't believe is necessary or what we want.

    I vote no.

  • I don't know about calling it a vowel renewal but I really like what mgreen said, maybe have your officiant say something like "all the married couples take this time to reflect on the wonderful time you have spent together" blah blah I'm bad with words but you get it.

Can you also renew consonants, or are only vowels permitted to be renewed?  =)

That is a very personal thing, not something you surprise guests with, even if it's optional.

A viable alternative would be to have the minister say a simple blessing (prayer) of the couple's marriage, as well as for all the the married couples in attendance. Other couples can share a brief romantic/sentimental moment with a look or holding hands, or it can just as easily be ignored if it's not their thing.
