Send save the dates out on Valentines Day?

My wedding is Oct. 1, 2011 and my Mom thinks it would be a good idea to send the save the dates out on Valentines Day. I am worried that will be too long to wait because I feel I should have sent them out already since October is a busy wedding month. What do you think?

     I personally think that is enough time to send them out in Feb (or Valentine's day). That gives everyone 8 months to make plans and I think they say to send them out at 6 months. So I think you're good.

    I think Valentine's Day would be cute. And definitely not too late.

    i believe the general rule of thumb is 6-8 months.  so february is okay.  you aren't getting married over a holiday weekend so anything more than 8 months (to me) seems excessive.

    My wedding is also Oct. 1 (Hooray date twin!) but we sent ours out in November. It really depends on how many out of town guests you have IMO. The majority of our family is from out of town, so we were actually hearing the questions from our guests of when and where will it be so they can plan. A great number of hotel rooms have already been booked, so in our case it was a good idea to let people know well in advance.
