Addressing Invitation Confusion!

So I have my invitations and I'm writing out all the addresses myself but I am so confused.  I don't have an inner envelope so how do I address the main envelope?  Do I write "and guest" on that one or the RSVP envelope?  Is my return address on the main envelope flap as well?  Does anyone have an example of how they are supposed to look written out?

Your goal is to find out the name of the date they would be bringing in advance of sending out the invitation. If that is impossible (i.e. the guest is truly single, but you'd still like to offer them a plus one) you would write on the outer envelope:

    Ms. Jane Smith and Guest
    123 Main Street
    Milwaukee, WI 12345

For example, I have a family of five, my aunt and uncle and their 3 daghters are single and live at home. Do I send one invite to the family or 4 separate invites?  Sending 4 just seems like too much and unnecessary.....

If the daughters are over the age of 18, each must receive her own invitation.

Yes, it does kind of seem like "too much", but they are (presumably) adults and it is the proper thing to do.

It's okay to put "and Guest" on the outer envelope if you don't know their date's name. Try to find the names first, though.

Anyone ove 18 gets their own invitation, so if the three daughters are all over that age, they each need their own.

Your return address is on the main envelope flap, and then on the RSVP envelopes you want those to be addressed to you (or whoever wants to receive all the RSVP cards). The only address on the RSVP envelopes is the mailing address to you - no return address on that, and nothing about the guests on that envelope.

In my area of the country, we don't put "and guest" on anything.  Find out the name of the person that your friend is bringing and put that name on the invitation.  You'll need that name now anyway to do the seating chart and escort cards/name plates, etc.

    >>Is my return address on the main envelope flap as well?

If your parents' names are on the top of the invitation like this:

    Mr. and Mrs. John Doe
request the honour of your presence...

then the invitation is coming from your parents, and it's THEIR address that goes on the main envelope flap AND on the RSVP card.
